What is your full tank range?

I am noticing something fishy with my 89 325i. I am only getting about 200 miles on a full tank of gas according to my odo and OBC?

What is yours and what could be my problem?

Is it city or highway driving? How many gallons do you fill up from empty to full? Could be that your "empty" is not really empty and you still have plenty of gas left.

well, initially, i did an engine swap and i swap the speedo cluster from my 87 to my 89 325i. then, the fuel gauge was acting up and saying it was empty but there was still half a tank of gas in it. then one time i filled up, the pump stopped and gauge shows, half a tank. (OBC was not set yet at this point) After a few fill ups, the gauge shows full now, but goes down quite faster than normal. My odo says 135 and my OBO range says 65 to 70 miles left on separate occasions.

This is from driving it on cruise control within 65mph speed limit.
          What could it be?

^ This. There is a difference between early and late (I don't know the cut off years) fuel gauges late=2 senders, early = 1 sender.
I would check that first to make sure they are compatible.

So I just filled up another full tank of gas since my needle was on empty since 2 days ago. Pump stopped a little over 7 gallons this time. Last time it was a little over 8 gallons. My fuel log says I used up 19.1 mpg.

Should I be replacing the fuel sender or the fuel gauge?

Replace the gauge with one from a late model, you should be able to put over 13 gallons in when it's empty.

I have a 5 speed with 4.10 LSD.. I think if I had a diff with a lower ratio I should be able to get a better MPG.

I really don't think the diff makes a huge difference, I got 21-26 (300-350 miles or so) with the automatic and 4.10s, it only dropped a little with the 5 speed and stroker. Nowadays it's between 250-350 miles per tank.

300+ miles?!? Yup there is something serious fucking wrong with my E30. HELL I got an ETA and I don't get those miles. I think it might have to do something with my gauges, as it was swamped out by the PO with an i cluster. hmmmm.....
