So the general consensus is loosen the motor mounts a little and jack it up by the a/c bracket? Any recommendations on the best gaskets?

i had to unbolt motor mounts, raise the engine, unbolted the pan and unbolted the oil pump as well to both slide it out.

          bell housing is pita
This is what I did. Dropped the pump into the pan and slid it out. The only thing I found difficult was re-fitting the shaft that drives the pump with about 2 inches of clearance between the pan and block.

With a friend and some beers this job is a breeze.
