At stock height it is much too close. When you add to the equation lowering the car it is much too close. Unless of course you can warp physics and cause a car to have no downward motion in it's suspension.
YEAH!!! Why didnt they put the oil pan where the battery used to be? theres plenty of room there!

I've had one oil pan issue but that was an over-the-river-and-through-the-woods type deal. Actually through a snow bank and into a tree... (Not my fault) That was with the stock suspension, I've since lowered the car about 2" and have had no problems. I usually bash the shit out of my front lip long before I ever get to the oil pan... My question to the rest of you guys who don't have scraping issues is how do you avoid smashing body kit bits? I was epoxying for hours tonight...:curse:

I'm right here with you. I have no lip on the front of my car right now cause I gotta repair it (judged a ramp into a parking lot to be a lot flatter than it really was). I didn't scrape it too bad, but one of the clips on the inside broke. The only reason I would put a skidplate on my oilpan is to be safe. Can someone explain how they craked their oilpan without messing up the body of their car?

As to not damaging the body, I had a cab front end that was much higher then my current is lip, hopefully I will escape Mexico with the lip intact.

                  51 71 1 929 451 - non-M up to 9/87

                  51 71 1 943 101 - iX

I'm slammed on GCs and the worst I've done is scrape the cat once in a parking garage.

I have picked up little pieces of fur from already flattened road kill though:(
I hit the cat if I bottom out. I've never hit the oil pan. Roads in Columbia suck ass though.

yeah, its dark right now, but tomorrow ill take some measurments and everything else.

PS: cut the drain hole for the oil longer as it tends to drip onto the skid plate and then it is really messy

Same here except its the center resonator. My oilpan sits right with the suspension so I would have to do plowing into a bump at warp speed to fuck it up. Or I guess if you took tall speedbumps at a 45 degree angle the car could settle down between the front wheels and hit the pan.

My car isnt slammed though, only a 1.5" drop.
                              Im now E30less.

I have no clue why but before the new front end when I went over depressions or bumps it was the pan that hit.

Now like you guys say I hit the lip but I am hyper aware of it and drive really carefully and still I have still managed to scrape it several times in the two weeks since I got her back.
