    Cluster 'Check' light

    Hi;
After driving for some time, my car's 'Check' light comes on indicating that there is problem with the Brake lamps. When I arrive at my destination, I park the car but leave it on. I depress the brake pedal with an umbrella so I can get to the back of the car to see which lamp is not working. To my surprise, all brake lamps and driving lights are ok. Any ideas what could be happening? I just hate having the annoying light on the upper check panel.
    Thanks.
    Victor

Brake light switch on your brake pedal could be bad.

Likely dirty bulbs/sockets. Clean them up with a little sand paper. The check system is finicky about stuff like that.

i always thought it was supposed to do that to get people in a habit of starting their car with the foot on the brake in case of being left in gear.

              every E30 does this. :)

the circuit isn't complete and can't be tested until you put your foot on the brakes.

That light also indicates if reverse lights aren't functioning. Get a friend to tell you if they come on when you put it in reverse.

Auto trans the starter cant energize in gear and in a 5spd if its in gear & you step on the brake, how is the engine going to turn over ?

                    Try the clutch ;)

I have a similar question an can start a new thread if needed.
                        Here it is anyway.

Rear third brake light that is normally on the trunk has been removed and a coupe hood fitted. Pretty standard mod there.
Here is the difference and the kicker. I added a rear LED third brake light from an e46 and wired it into the same wiring used to supply the standard third brake light.

LED third brakelight works titties! However since the LED from the e46 has a different internal resistance than the OEM third brake light which uses an incandescent bulb it causes the Brake Lights LED to be lit up in the check panel.

Does anyone know if I can just wire in a 1/2 watt resistor of a certain value (dont know the value?) to the hot side wire that supplies the LED third brake light and have that check Brake Lights LED be turned off?

you'll need at least a 330 ohm resistor to have your LED work correctly.

Just connect the two Green/Black wires together.
