    Coolant is still brown and fishy

    Just flushed my nasty coolant that was a dark brown/black from my recently purchased junkyard car and it returned after a few days. Should I just keep flushing it? What is up with my coolant system?

    Flush it 10x times, mine was like that. Also if its that dirty, make sure your radiator isnt getting clogged.

      thats how it looks when oil passes to the coolant passage ways. you might have a blown gasket or cracked head somewhere..

        Its not oily though but I am getting oil in my exhaust so that might make sense. I threw in the Coolant flush+cleaner and will report back after I flush it.

              Rent a radiator pressure tester from the auto parts store. Pressure the coolant system and then wait a half hour. If it is still at the same amount of pressure, no head gasket leak. If it drops, then you have problems.

                the heads crack under the rocker arms. If and when you get the head off, be sure to have it pressure or vacuum tested and flatness checked.

                I learnt a neat trick recently....There is usually a small amount of condensation at the end of thee tailpipe. Just touch your finger to it and than taste it. If it is super sweet, thats not good. Its IMNSHO much more reliable test then those cheap exhaust gas/coolant reservoir testing kits.

                ps- not talking about the rad pressure tester, I like those. I am dissing the exhaust gas analyzer fluid test that changes color.

                  I would do that but I also have Oil in my Exhaust pipe and there is condensation.

                  I just flushed it again yesterday. LOADS of rust is coming out of my Radiator. Brown Gunk that settles to the bottom of the bucket. I been using straight distilled till its all removed.

                    Using distilled water to flush is a total waste of money. Buy some name brand "super flush" and give it a god chemical douche. Then rinse/flush/rinse flush til its clean. You may have all kinds of plugged up channels to you may want to pull the radiator after flushing and do a reverse flush on it or possibly replace it. I wouldnt invest in any other repairs til you do this and confirm that your coolant is stable.

                    Distilled water is strictly for your final fill along with BMW Coolant.

                        You need to flush it more like 10 times. 2 times won't do jack. Use the hose until you do, then do a final fill with distilled.

                          hmm, yeh, oil usually goes to the top
                          ...well its dead easy to remove the rad and the engine block drain plug under the exhaust manifold at the back and the heater hoses and flush the livin daylights out of it with the hose....

                            So I just pulled the radiator and damn was it disgusting. No wonder my radiator drain plug didnt work. So much sludge came out of it. I just need a way to figure out how to clean out all of the sludge in the system all of the hoses are cake inside with it.
