    odometer intermittent

I already replaced the gears and double checked they are in place.

I heard the diff sensor could have a bad connection so I looked at it and it looks shiny and silver on both connectors.

What else could cause my odometer to work intermittently? Everything else on the dash works fine.

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.

How long ago did you change the gears? Just after I changed mine, there were a couple occasions where the odometer stopped working then started up again on its own.

The gears worked fine for 2000 miles and then started to become intermittent. It has been another 1000 since then, going for a few hundred, then a few 10 or so and now even less.

It may be worth your time to pull the gauge out and make sure the gears are functioning properly and aligned. No previous experience here, but it sure sounds like something is mechanically failing...

It might also be that the cover for the little motor that makes everything work has tightened up. I replaced my gears and they didn't work, pulled the cluster back out, took it apart, futzed with things, loosened the clear cover and it worked fine after.

I pulled it out and it was working just fine, put it back in, worked for a quarter tanks and still intermittent. Could the si board batteries be going back?

Si board has no control over gas gauge, odo or speedo.

I can install gears, repair, and adjust the odometer. I have a test bench setup where I can test the odometer assembly and cluster as a whole. This will help me guarantee that the odometer I am working on is put together correctly and working according to spec.

The gears themselves can be tricky to get right the first time. VDO gears can easily be incorrectly installed yet seem like they mesh correctly. Also the plastic door can attribute to intermittent odometer operation.

Thanks Gregs... They have been working fine for the last 30 miles. I am wondering if it has to do with temperature.

How do I know if the plastic cover is too tight?

You can't really tell unless you run the odometer. I barely torque those screws enough so there is no play of the plastic cover.

I have this issue with my odometer as well. I really want it fixed :(

I changed the gears using gears from Garagistic. It worked fine and I had no issues then it just stopped working. I have the spacers installed and everything. What do i do now? Where is this diff sensor?

Mine does the same thing. But it's also the speedometer and the odometer. Everything else works. Just intermittent. If I drive for a long while it'll kick on.

The wires at the diff sensor are probably broken
