jam a screwdriver between 2 of the pulley's bolts, that will give you something to hold it with.

I've tried that method but never seems to work.

I keep saying I'm gonna grab one of them tools @ Bav. but always forget.
I alway use a pair of the huge channel locks (real ones) from home depot. I have bout 4-6 sets of the monsters. I just use them to hold the pully.

I use a foot long screwdriver and that does the trick. it's soft enough to bend as i apply force, cheap orange handle model.

perfect for tensioning alternator and p/s pump too :p

i can't get mine off, it's a pain in the ass.

on my last m20 it came off with vice grips.

but this sumbitch is really putting up a fight.

But I paid less than half list price, so it was worth it.

if the Fan/Alt belt still on then retension Alternator and that will help a bit.

you can also jam the screwdriver between belt and bottom side of fan pulley for even more friction.

Guys! Don't be sticking screwdrivers and crap down there to try and hold the pulley. Even the BMW special tool can break the water pump pulley/bolts. I take fan clutches off everyday, and THE way to do it is just how I said, with a 32mm wrench and a hammer. Ask any of the other techs here on the board.

Damn, I feel like I've said this before.

Try again, make sure you strike down and across. It may take a few good whacks, but I've never had one that I couldn't get off that way.

Sometimes it requires a little pentrating oil.. some PB Blaster er sometin'

..furthermore I'm amazed at the fact that this thread is now 2 pages long. I think we're covered every possibility when it comes to removing the fan clutch.
