    Fuel line sizes?

Hey r3v I am compiling parts for a head swap and stumbled on this hose on realOEM. Is there a cheaper alternative? Is there a standard hose size for the car?

Number 12, simple short hose $30? Anyone found away around this price? I'm willing to pay the money if it's necessary but it seems like it's no different than a normal fuel hose besides the 90 degree curve. Thanks!

Remove hose. Take it to local hose supply. I have a few industrial hose supply houses around that sell by the foot all sorts of hosing a d provide crimping/terminating services, too.

The hose I replaced the oil cooler lines on my W126 are a serious upgrade. I think you could re-hose a vehicle for less than OEM money all the while with better material.

Can always go to AutoZone, too.

      It's usually 5/16" or 8mm hose

The moulded hoses are expensive, the non moulded hoses they just call up the hose with appropriate ID then you just buy a whole length and cut to size

Some moulded stuff has they radii so you can't readily use normal hose

Fuel line is 8x13mm and must be rated for fuel injection or it will break down from the ethanol in gas. Like time I bought 5m which is enough to do 2 cars under the hood and I paid about $32 for the roll.

5/16" is an ok substitute for you imperialists out there :)

The only molded fuel hose I ever buy is fuel pump to fuel filter for about $6 but even that I've gotten away with bulk hose.

Oh...the last time I bought fuel line at the dealer...they gave me 5/16. So much for purity !!

I got mine from bavauto b/c I heard horror stories of parts stores fuel line not beign able to withstand the fuel pressure of bmw fuel systems.

I used 16121180409 for the front of the car.. haven't done the back yet. It's sold by the meter. I got four meters and used more than half in the front

That would be from buying Jose that is not FI rated

Fuel injected hose isn't necessarily ethanol resistant. It's a different pressure rating to regular fuel hose. I use ethanol rated fi hose when I replace hoses nowadays just incase I ever want to use it it's one less thing to worry about

That is a great idea. Ethanol seems like a nasty additive. Just from JEGS or where do you get yours?

It may just be that no one sells FI hose here that is not ethanol resistant. since its very difficult to avoid ethanol it's become the norm.

                  May be different down under

so is the final conclusion that if I bring the hose to a parts store or a store that sells hoses it will suffice?

As long as it's "fuel injection hose" and not just "fuel hose".

I buy it by the meter from BMW, and it's not overly expensive compared to the parts store. Expect $4.95/ft (or more) for a parts store at average price.

I use HBD Thermoid FI-503. Expensive but excellent quality. Nicer than OEM in my opinion.
