    Vibration of doom

    hey guys

    ok here is my problem
My car rides very smooth up to 75mph, right after that the whole car starts vibrating, at 80mph+, it like the car is about to come apart, feels like a damn earthquake, lol.

The front wheels have been balanced, the rears, well I dont remember the last time but the car rides very very smooth UNTIL 75 mph.

    Any suggestions?

btw. the car does need an alignment, not a major one, but could that have anything to do with it?

Worn Ball joints, tie rods or Control arm bushings are my guess. Double check the balancing... sometimes those tire jockeys can really fuck shit up.

those speeds sound like tire balance, or rim mounting, if hub/wheel not centered...

can a worn flex disk or a out of balanced drive shaft do this?

Put the car in neutral at speed and see if the noise is still there..mine was pretty bad when the guibo failed, it would only vibrate during acceleration and in gear...

I'll check it while the car is in neutural at those speeds.

Also, if the wheels are not centered on the hub, then how do you center them on the hub?

I had the same thing, with clunking. it was a bad u-joint in my driveshaft. replaced it with one from a parts car. fixed everything!

I guess that could be it also, hmmm

The vibration does not come from the steering wheel, it feels like the entire car is vibrating....eh. If it mattes any, I have some cheap tires in the front....

But how could I really check the U-joint?

Lift the car up, hold the DS on either side of the u-joint, and if you can feel any slop, that's the u-joint. Also check for missing weights, this could also cause the problem.

                        I'll check that
But where are the weights usually on the DS?

well, if any were missing, you could see the off-color spot with old glue on it. they should be along the length of the drive shaft. different distances balance differently.

i always though that a off balanced driveshaft would give you vibrations around 25 mph

Check your guibo(flex disc) and check the carrier baring in the middle that can also be bad and causing it. I had both go out on my car and it sounded like i was running over continuous pot holes in every gear it was really bad.
