Hey man, whatever you decide to do (I say start off with a later model 325i(s) and move from there....going with one of the early posts and doing a few motor mods, maybe a turbo kit, then move on to suspension, wheels, tires, then interior) DONT do an M50 motor swap. I've heard nothing but bad things about the hassle of getting one of those in there...it FAR outweighs the 20hp and VANOS gains you'll get. There are better ways to spend money.- 2000 Audi S4 Stg 2 (sold)
- house (bought)
- 1997 Civic Hatch (shaky but driveable)
- 2010 Sportster 1200 Forty Eight Ed. (vroom)
- 1991 318is S50B30 (TBA)

Since ur dreaming of a turbo E30....How about buying an i head/intake/exhaust manifolds and dropping it onto your 2.7 liter block. This should lower the compression which would make the engine ideal for turbocharging. You should be able to do it all for about 5K."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj

Second, you are supposed to upgrade your suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, etc. BEFORE you upgrade your engine. Having a super fast engine and a car that can't handle it is unsafe and stupid.

I vote for a 2.8L stroker (as Fred did on strictlyeta.net).......good suspension......good wheels.....and if you want the skinny bumpers, I have them along with an M-Tech I front spoiler, fog lights and the early metal valence.........only catch is I live in SE Asia so shipping will be costly.
Whatever you choose........enjoy it ;)

man.... the facelift style E30's are the best... sure you can replace the metal bumpers on the older pre facelift E30's with new ground effects, but the '89 325iS is one of the best E30's I've ever seen stock.....except for the M3 (but that doesn't count)
but anyways...you spend your money how you like.. i know how i'm spending mine...
o and BTW you CAN find facelift E30's for cheap
I got my '89 325is for $3700 and it had 91k miles... not too bad... and I've had it for about 6 months and had no problems at all....
