    Question Re: Your Nuts

To be very specific, your M20 engine mount nuts. I've got to replace my engine mounts this next weekend and I will be installing a pair of IE motor mounts (the yellow urethane jobbers - see below). I was wondering if the thread pitch on the bolts was identical to those of OEM M20 engine mounts. Just trying to clarify what hardware I'm going to need when I get started.

    TIA.

Yea they should come with all hardware needed. Otherwise the stock nuts will work just fine.

These mounts didn't come with any hardware - hence the purpose of this post. A friend sold these mounts to me for stupid-cheap since he sold his E30 - they are used, but they weren't on his car for long before he parted it out.

I've heard of the stories re: Ireland and their hit-or-miss success with customer service. Its a real shame because they produce some great stuff for our cars that are reasonably priced.

Hm, so the mounts have smaller-than-stock studs? I am fairly certain that all E30 stock engine mounts have M10x1.5 studs.

Take the mount with you to be sure...and make sure you buy SELF-LOCKING. Suck to have one of those come loose...

Well I got the problem resolved. I had to go to my friends' shop to pick up some driveshaft hardware and guibo to complete my upcoming project and I brought the IE mounts with me. I showed him these mounts and a quick trip to the supply bins yielded exactly what I needed. 4 new nuts & 4 new lock washers for $1.

Can't beat that deal with a stick. Now I can fix da whip.

Why did you get lock washers? The mounts should use either nylock nuts or locking nuts with the oval holes and just a flat washer.

If you got just regular hex nuts then you should get the right ones. Do not use a standard nut and a lock washer. There is so much vibration in that area that even a lock washer can start to loosen and the nut may back off.

                              Just FYI
