My old car had a carb (holley 650 double pumper). I got shitty gas mileage (12mpg on a good day) and tuning it all the time to keep it runing right sucks. Give me computer tuned EFI any day, especially on a daily driver!

Properly adjusted carbs, like the webbers I had in my Porsche, got over 24mpg on the highway, not too bad for a 1972 motor and short gearing
My reasoning is that to achieve 800 hp with carb you just dump as much gas in as you can burn and then some. I am sure not everyone with a carb is trying for 800, jnro should they, but SEFI is a few steps ahead.

              m10 was a 320i
m20 was that damn 320/6 in the early 80's with the rochester that sucked
              and
m20 #2 was another e21 with triple side drafts way too much for a 292 cam. would have been better with a 316 or 328 race cam and track only but streetability was REV REV REV every light. Remember this was the 80's and carbs were better than CIS but not a match for Ljet or jetronic

don't shit on carbs. I run a single mikuni phh sidedraft on my 85 318 (m10) which is bone stock other than msd coil and wires. I have taken it up to 118 MPH with room left to push the pedal. I have only had to adjust it when I was changing my jets. Other than that i have been running it for 5 months without having to adjust the carb.

man mcgrath, wish my m10 would have pushed my car past 110! i was able to do about 110, but it took about 2 miles and i think i was pushoing my foot through the floor!

the old 4bbl on the E21 320s really did suck, they never ran right! there is a company over here in germany that makes ind. throttle body setup(like the E30 M3) really nice, but it really doesnt give that much power vs. cost. weber sidedrafts rule though on the right car!!!

For a daily driver I wouldn't recommend an carb, M10 on carb uses more fuel than a 320i with a rough driving style :?

                        Can you say "Throttle response."

Tunning carbs can be a bit annoying, i guess it all depends the purpose of the car.
