DS2's... now what?

    Rolling the fender... even with plenty of heat I still had some cracking on both sides and it even flaked off on one side. I still have a touch of rubbing on both sides under hard acceleration with corninering + bumps.



    Eventually I'll swap the 245/40's out for 245/35's to make Daniel happy and get some more clearance. It's at about -1.2 degrees camber now and a touch more might help, as well.

    I should also mention, no one gave my car the time of day when it was running 14" skateboard wheels. Now with the bigger wheels I seem to attract all the Camaros that want to race...

      I did a 5 lug swap on my buddys E30 a few weeks ago. He is running stag DS2s with some serious meats. I will have to snap some photos..

        Fronts are done. Took about 2 hours per corner including swapping CABs, springs, etc off the old struts.

        Pretty straightforward, some of the balljoints needed a good whack to free them.

        The biggest issue was that on re-assembly I left the tie rods where they were for the e30 suspension, it made the wheels toe out horribly and the car looked pigeon-toed.

        I lived in DC for 2 years so the tie rods just wouldn't losen and adjust until I freed them with the smoke wrench.

        Yes, I'm addicted to Oxy.

        I ended up needing to cut 1/2" off the collar to screw the tie rod end in far enough to square the wheels.

        Lesson learned: have new tie rods ready for your swap, you'll be adjusting them massively.

        ABS was connected and op checks Ok.

        Driving impressions: On the original suspension/brakes, I had a hard time locking up the 195/14s. The brakes were adequate for a Corolla. ABS only ever came on in the wet.

        With the M3 brakes.. holly shit!... the car stops hard. ABS comes on over dry pavement if I nail it semi-hard. Brakes feel very nice. Not extremley hard, not mushy. 25mm master is perfect.

        Initial measurement is about -2/3 degree camber on each side.

        Wheels are perfectly centered.

        Cornering is better but I haven't explored hard cornering... yet.

            the problem with that swap is how much braking force you install on the front and the rear now is basically along for the drive. I had to install a brake bias on the front line. Limiting the front = more to the rear. Braking improved hugely!! just sharing my experience. if your abs didnt work, you would lock up you front really easily... removing the limiter for the rear is also an option ; /

              Yeah, it feels heavily front biased. It would have been worse with 318ti calipers in the rear.

              Is the stock master cylinder stepped for front/rear? 25mm unit?

              I thought you weren't supposed to regulate the front... how much does the rear pressure regulator reduce the pressure?

              Anyone else remove their rear pressure regulator?

                I found that my self-leveling laser works killer for checking/adjusting the alignment.

                Now, what specs should I be setting it to?

                    Thanks, eventually I'll take it in for a "real" alignment. For now I'm at 1 degree camber in the rear with .3 total toe-in. 0 toe in the front with 1.3 camber, soon to be slightly over 2.

                    I've also removed the rear brake bias valve.

                    Impressions so far is that in "normal" day-to-day braking and hard wet braking it doesn't make a difference.

                    In aggressive dry braking when the tires are warm and grip is good, I can feel more bite before the fronts start to lock. The rear gets more involved.

                    I'll leave it as-is for a while, the next step would be for me to change pad compounds, I think.
