    Maval 9816M any good?

Ive seen a lot of talk on this forum and others about avoiding Maval steering racks, and typically I would search for a used steering rack and call it good, but I cant seem to find any. Most of those discussions are pre-covid, which means that odds are they havent gotten better in quality, but its always possible. Looking to do a Z3 steering rack swap on my 87 325e, and ETK shows for a z3 the part number is 32 13 1 096 280, which WorldPac and IMC both sell as the Maval 9816M. Seeing as im unable to find a used rack, and the BMW one is 1500, im considering maval as my WP rep says he can give it to me for 230$. He also said that theyve sold that particular rack 180 times, with a return/warranty rate of less than 3.5%. Should I take the risk or keep looking for a used one?

Also worth noting that other people seem to have input on the Maval 9302M, not sure if this is for an e36 rack or otherwise, or if maybe the BMW/Maval part number has changed, but worth mentioning

What do you mean you can't find one? Just get one off of eBay.

it won't be a z3 rack. it's a replacement but the lock to lock won't match. they build a generic. it will still be shorter than the e30 rack by almost a full turn. if you search they use the same part internal part number for all the e36 racks, including the z3 app.

edit : AAE does one as well but it is set at either 3.0 or 3.2. they acknowledge it in tech notes on their site. maval either is the same or is built the same.

Yeah, sure enough its a generic rack for the e36 chassis, not just the Z3. Super disappointing, considering its the same price as a used Z3 rack on ebay but it comes with tie rod inners too. Oh well, used rack it is. Click image for larger version

Hello ~ bumping this thread as to not create another steering rack thread. I've researched everywhere, for days. I'm decided on a Z3 or e36 non-M steering rack, however, I can't find an OEM re-manufactured anywhere. Everything on eBay appears to be generic or used OEM, which makes me nervous. From what I've read, Maval is also generic and not as reliable. Can anyone direct me to WHERE I should purchase one of these racks? The only viable option I've found thus far is rage-it parts and no offense to him, but it seems a bit overpriced ($1,000+) after all is said and done. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I *think* the part # I want/need is 32131096280 (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...al-32131096280) but again, I'm hesitant to purchase a maval rack.

              TYIA!
