    Forward mounted front sway bar

Has anyone ever built or know of a build where they placed the front sway bar in front of the axle? As in it would still mount the the subframe rails but in front of the steering rack? I feel like I have seen this before and I can't remember where.

The inquiry is due to my current build and trying to accommodate some areas of the swap that would be harder and more costly to change.

Can anyone think of a reason why it would be a bad idea to locate it there and attach the the strut tubes m3 style? (I have 5-lug)

Interested in your solution. Right now my exhaust is nackered to get around the sway bar and I'd love to mount it in the front and fix the modified bank.

I'm thinking something like this. I believe the early e36 were setup this way.

I got the idea from all the jeep guys I'm around. A lot of them will go to a sway bar like this for long travel setups. Obviously not what we need it for, but the concept of being able to place it where you want is appealing.

I can't see why not. later cars have the "extended" frame rails that you could mount it to. you can get polyurethane swaybar bushings that come with their own brackets, you could put some caged nuts in the frame and just bolt it up.

lots of really cheap used BMW swaybars that would fit too.

yes, the ix is up front.

I was thinking maybe get a vert sway, get bushings like you stated and flip it around, the run the rods to the struts for my 5-lug setup.

This dude makes custom subframes that accept a forward mounted sway.

Yeah I have seen those but I don't think that is necessary for my application. The subframe rails are capable of holding it, I'll just have to make mounting points.

What's the benefit for this? Seems like a lot of work to move weight forward for no forseable gain.

My motor is a rear oil sump pan. it would fit behind the cross member without modification if I can relocate the sway. and its not a lot of extra work if you have the right equipment. Also like Eric stated above, it will give a lot more clearance for custom exhaust applications.

The sway bar is right in the way of my euro S50 headers.

I have no idea how that would work on your car. With my setup the sump area of the pan is in the back, with your's in the front you'd have to do some crazy routing......

I'm not worried about the sump, just want to correct the exhaust flow of that one header bank.
