After reading a bunch of threads about E30 suspension, and considering my car came with Bilsteins already installed, I decided the H&R race springs (50404-88 ) would be a good fit. I just installed them this weekend along with new LCAs, E36 m3 lollipop bushings and new tie rod ends. I'm running Yokohama S Drive tires (205/50/16) and I have an unknown front swaybar (it's red) and what I assume is a suspention techniques (neon green) rear sway.
To me, the suspension does not feel particularly stiff. They are listed as 315f/570r on various forums (who knows how accurate that is), but - from my highly scientific test of bouncing on the rocker with the door open - they don't feel that stiff to me. Granted they are progressive, but there's a lot more deflection than I was anticipating. There's also more body roll during driving than I was expecting.
My basis of comparisson was my CRX on 250f/350r linear CG coilovers which weighed ~1900lb wet. That car felt much stiffer (and harsher) than my E30.
All said, I think it's a fantastic setup for the street, it's a little stiffer than the Eibach Pro-Kit springs that were on the car when I got it (they sucked, don't buy them) and the car is comfortable to drive on the road, I was just hoping for a slighly stiffer ride. I just wanted to make sure that my assessment wasn't indicating there's a problem with the car. I drove it hard in the parking lot to bed the brakes and nothing felt off. Possible my Bilsteins are either shot or just way under damped for this application?
