Camber Plates: Vorshlag vs GC

What's your opinion on the two? I'm debating right now, need to make a decision before this weekend. I love vorshlags products, but on their website it says for bilstein struts (the perch side). I need these to fit IE3 (oe style springs) and koni struts.

The GC and the Vorshlag ones are very similar in price, but I'm curious to know what everyones experience is with their setup?

I have both. My 325i is sitting on a full C3 Motorsport coilover kit which uses the Vorshlag camber/caster plates, and my M3 came with Ground Control coilovers.

Comparing the two side by side, I would never buy Ground control plates. The Vorshlag plates are better in every way. They have a lower stack height than GC, which provides more shock travel. They have a huge spherical bearing. Vorshlag uses three welded on studs that mount up through the strut tower to mount, where the GC plates just use some nut/bolts to mount them. This makes mounting/adjusting the GC plates a pain in the ass because you have to reach up in the fenderwell with a wrench every time you want to tighten or loosen one of the bolts.

I also have both, and would agree that the Vorshlag plates are a much better design. Not to mention Vorshlag is a fantastic company to deal with and Ground Control is, well, shit.

Ah! I know the answer to that... :p

Yes... you just have to order the right perches for the strut and spring you are using (Bilstein Sport and Koni are significantly different). Luckily there's only one OEM spring diameter on an E30 (E36 has 3 OEM perch sizes!) but we do make them a number of ways depending on Bilstein Sport, Koni, etc. There's a lot fewer options on the E30 plates and perches than with E36 (which has 24 variations and counting!), which is nice.

I wish all of the NASA sanctioning bodies/regions would recognize our E30 plates as SpecE30 "legal"... its a technicality that keeps our design out of the class. We will not compromise our E30 plate (specifically the upper perches we couple with the plates) design just because the rules are broken. :D

We've seen what happens to the OEM upper perches if you don't do it right... just don't want anything to do with that known issue.

+1 for Vorshlag. I haven't seen a pair of GCs but my Vorshlag plates are beautifully designed. Some things you don't need to be a professional engineer to look at and wish something was beefier or more convenient. These don't make me feel that about any part of them. In fact, if I had to strain for a gripe, the only thing I would say is that the huge bearing needs time to loosen up, the steering feels tighter initially. But again, that's just if I was looking for something to complain about.

In this regard, I don't think the SpecE30 rules are "broken". The class rules are meant to ensure an even playing field while keeping car costs down. Once you allow a modified perch the path is open to strange configurations that might provide a competitive advantage.

The GC plates work quite well, thank you. The current design includes a bolt plate, so you don't have to reach up into the strut tower to bolt the plate into place. I would not recommend the GC plates on a street car, but they work fine on my SpecE30.

+1 again for Vorschlag. I just installed them on my 'vert and they are absolutely, positively top quality shit. I wouldn't use anything else.

for clarification, the GC plate i was referring to was the Spec E30 design
