I'm 35. I'm an expert at a lot of things. I've seen some pretty stupid comments by a ton of people on this board and other forums but I've never bothered to denigrated them. I know a lot about a of things. I am not however an expert on hellaflush or whatever. I just like my e30 and was thinking about making it sweeter. I'm not really trying to be cool or be in some club. I just want to make it cool for me. I've read a bunch of stuff on here and as you know like all forums there are always people with different opinions. I know I could just get some H&R sports and bilsteins and slap some wheels on it with some 20 offsets and ride out. But I was just looking for info. So now that I've given you a laugh anyone wanna help me? BTW I make plenty of $. I could just go to a shop and get it all done but I like to be a bit more hands on than that and I like to know what I'm talking about before I make decisions. Anyway... Thanks.

Why are the offsets 'gay'? 16x8 et20 is absolutely perfect.
Exactly...
16x8 et20 with 225.45.16 is literally perfect and it's the exact same rolling diameter as stock. I really want a set of these... My old E30 had this spec wheel/tire and looks perfect.

5pointadam - I'm not sure if you are trolling or not, but if you are an 'expert' on a lot of things you must know how to research? Anyway 'hellaflush' is a term that people coined and it caught on, much like 'stanced' and several others. There are now a lot of online forums/blogs/feeds whatever that have different marketable terms and catch phrases but basically it is all the same thing. Many people now frown upon this trend as people are just coming into car scenes and getting on the bandwagon. They act as if any of the terms mentioned above has some sort of dictionary meaning and a shopping list behind it. It doesn't.
To put it plainly, it is personal preference. Getting a car set up to look the way you want involves choosing how low you want to go (this then decides what type of suspension you want. brand is up to you. generally coilovers of some kind. spring rates generally hard since you are low and wheels will be close to fenders), then you choose wheel size (some like 15s, most prefer 16s, some like 17s), then offset (the lower offset/wider wheel the more it extends outwards). Then you need to select tyre size (if you want stretched tyres and how much you are willing to stretch) and how much camber you are willing or able to run (front camber plates, rear needs weld in adjusters).
e.g. Thought process: You are willing to stretch tyres & can get the size you want. You will be getting coilovers and camber adjusters. You decide you want to run 'x' size rims and can fit 'x' offset based on research and looking at other's cars. Buy rims, stretch tyres on, dial in suspension. Drive.
Provided you make things fit properly then it should not destroy your car. You may need to roll guards/repaint if they crack. You may scrape and bend things or crack/bend lips or other body parts. It may wear things out quicker though such as tyres, bushes etc. And if you go very hard on springs and drive very hard etc ultimately you may start to 'tear' your chassis at the weld points, especially strut areas. This is true of any car. This is why people with drift cars/track cars look at stitch welding.Last edited by Ant_e30; 06-19-2012, 09:08 PM.

This is my flush fitment setup that I use on my project 318is drift car. I think wheel fitment is important to any car. I like a car to perform as well as it looks personally. My car has zero rubbing with the fenders rolled flat. I am running 15x10 +15 rear and 15x9 +10 front. I've run several different sizes of tires all with some stretch, but I didn't run into any issues with clearance on that wheel size and offset so long as the tire didn't exceed the rim width. There is still some more room to play around with a little more offset and such (rear could prob use an extra 5-10mm spacing), but I found this to be a pretty good balance at least for now. Also not many people venture into the 10" range on E30's so I feel pretty good about it without looking like I am trying too hard. Also keep in mind you will typically sink in about 8-10mm's more in the rear on E30's if you run the same wheel width and offset front and rear. So you would either want to run staggered widths or have a lower offset in the rear to match the fitment front to back.

Thank you
^ so with the borbets they come 16x9 and 16x8. If I ran those with a 20 offset I could likely get away with no rolling but a 15 offset would give the more wide body look but it would likely need the rolling right? I like the rolled fender look I just want to be careful that my car doesn't turn into a project car. Like I said above I don't need it to be the best of the best. For me I like to be super clean and have ease of ownership. I've had project cars before and learned a lot. I can spin a wrench if I need to but I'm the type now who wants to tighten it and forget it.

^ I roll the fenders on all my cars. It gives you way more options whether you track your car or park hard. I feel it is a must honestly for anyone that is serious about modding a car. If you are even considering any kind of aggressive fitting wheels then you want to roll your fenders. Since you are in Socal you could find a local to just do it for you for pretty cheap.
You are not going to get flush with the fenders without rolling... especially in the rear.
