Another question though, would it be better to pull or roll the fenders? pulling would look better but doesnt it stress the paint and cause it to crack etc?
    thanks Luke
Well you'll need to get the offsets, as it could be anything at this point.

With 9.5" wide rears, rolling is very likely not going to be enough clearance and you will have to get into pullling/bodywork. Unless the offset is a little higher and the wheel sits close to the struts (a rare setup), you're looking at some good work back there.

And also how much stretch would there be with 205/40/16 on 8" and 215/40/16 on a 9.5"

A very noticeable stretch on the 8", and a borderline extreme one on the 9.5". Think rim sticking outside of the tire on both sides.

Surprisingly...not the greatest. They are fairly competitive, but there are other, cheaper entries that are actually more capable. The super-cheap Falken ZE-912 is currently the highest rated all-season tire, although if I remember correctly for your use you're looking for a snow-capable tire. The only all-seasons that like snow are the Continental Contiextreme, the Nokian WR, and the Sumitomo HTR+. For your purposes either get one of those or a performance winter.

More capable than most winter tires, but still a lot softer in response than a true summer tire. Braking distances will also suffer.

There's really no way to have your cake and it too with one tire. But you can get pretty close with these new tires.

Ok well Ive got the wheels here in my room. The guy I bought them off had them on his M30 turbo E30 and he didnt roll his guards at all. How would I find out the new offset? And .5" really make that much difference? as with 9s rolling is generally enough.

I like these a lot. But they dont have a friendly size I need..

205/65/15? not great but i need a tire to fit a 15x8 on a lowered ix. This profile will is 1.5 inch bigger. and will make my car set up .75inch. but with some streach it may lower it some... i dunno. as is i think it sets to high up..
195/65/15?? still oversize but not wide enough..

As I said, it's all about offset. If those rear wheels hug the inside of the car, then yeah with 215 tires you can get away with it. So if you have his experience and don't have the final offset...there's not much I can tell you here.

To find out the offset you can read the original model on the wheel (RSxxx) and look up the specs of that wheel stock, then use that data to figure out the new offset (I can do this for you).

Neither of the sizes you mentioned will work on an E30. 195/60/15 will, and will mount on your wheels...but of course it will be stretched quite a bit.

For your purposes, the best tire is the 205/55/15 Continental ContiExtremeContact. If it shows my enthusiasm for this tire as a good dry/wet and occasional heavy snow tire, I just ordered a set for my M3.

i always thought continental was garbage...

                            Never owned their tires though...

                            Just shop stories.

EDIT: I don't see discount doing a 100 of a set of tires? did the stop that? If you called and asked do you guys think they would do it?

Continental is a huge hit-or-miss company. Most of their OEM stuff is only okay, but some of their models (SportContact2 and 3, ContiExtremeContact) are excellent.

The Discount, um, discount ended on the 20th of Oct IIRC. Tirerack has better prices for that tire anyways last time I looked.

Ok so where would I find the RSxxx code? I have looked behind the center cap and think that mayeb the redrilled fitment may have destroyed it? Anything else that could help you?
