      15x8 for sure if your goal is grip. The steering and transitional response alone is worth it, let alone lateral grip.

        Those tires will scrub the inner front fenders, but if they're worn enough it won't be too bad.

        With 15mm spacers I'd recommend any of 205/50 215/45 225/45.

          99% sure that size is not available, at least in NA.

          Also, to run that size on that wheel you're looking at moderate fender pulling (passed rolling).

            E46 M3s have a huge rear-bias when it comes to wheel fitment (flares). Once you add the adapters in the rear they will poke outside of the fenders, and require something like a 205/35/18 stretched on along with plenty of fender rolling and sky-high spring rates. Not exactly what you're looking for.

            For the second car, 15x8 or 16x8 with an offset close to +20 is perfect. You can then mount a 225/50/15 or 225/45/16 with a healthy fender roll. If you really want to push it go for the Apex ARC-8 (which I helped spec, shameless self plug) in 17x8 +25 - you can get a 235/40/17 on there easily, even a 245/35/17. All of the sizes listed are for all 4 corners, as it should be.

              So if you can fit a 225/50/15 on a 15x7 et25 wheel (with the tire being the widest part), why can't you throw the same tire on a 15x8 wheel and have it fit without rolling / pulling? Is it just that there are no wheels with the right offset, or am I missing something?

                5 series fitment on e30??????

                i would like to put rims from a 92 5series on my car, but idk if the offset is compatable with my e30. please helm me! (they are like a basket weave but have a 1 inch lip and are 16 inch)

                  For every 0.5" of wheel width added, the overall width of the mounted tire increases ~0.2". So a 225/50 that is 9.3" wide on a 7" rim becomes 9.7" on an 8". Huge difference when you're already cutting it close.

                  Beyond that, a 15x8 +25 wheel will not clear the front struts, even without the tire mounted.

                    E34 basketweaves are all 15" as far as I know. Those must have originally been off of another chassis.

                    You can't mount them without either redrilling them to 4lug or swapping your suspension out for 5lug.

                        I hadn't thought of that.

                        On pavement, given the same tire model and 7" wheel, I'm generally still better off with a 225 than I would be with a 205, yes?

                          What would be needed to fit
                          RS 003's origional ET on a 7j wheel of 25.
                          These have been built out to 9.5j rears and 8.5j fronts.

                                lol...yes and no. You will gain lateral and longitudinal grip, but the wider-than-optimal wheel to tire ratio will slightly dull response time. Still worth it to me (I run 225/50 on my 15x7's).
