Also where can I buy a kit that converts so I can use wheel studs? Thanks!

You'll be safe with the 16x8 et20 and running a 205/50 tire. Plug and play.

        Best tire for 17's

offset 35+ I'' probably run 15 mm spacers on the front.

        wheels 17 7.5 wide

I'm thinking 205/40/17 I'll rather no roll my feneders. What about a staggered setup?

        205's front and 215's back?

        Thanks guys!

Bummer, thats what I was afraid of, so as I'm looking I need to focus on 14-17 inch rims (so they won't rub) and something 57.1 or larger to fit the hub... what kind of offset range works best for the least ammount of modification needed to make it fit?

In the rear you could run a 255/40. With about 5mm clearance to the strut, genders need to be pulled about half an inch. Fronts will need atleast a 10mm spaced to clear the strut tube. Problem you'll run into though is the tire hitting the frame when at lock. Might be able to get by with a much skinnier tire like a 225 or so.

So you're either stuck with a setup that will poke too much on the front compared to the rear (+20F/+25R) or the staggered 7.5" up front.
Car is 89 touring running GC coil overs with camber plates, I don't plan to tuck the tires, I would like to have the tires as flush to the fender as possible with 1/2" visible fender/tire gap when viewed from the side and avoid major fender work.

So I can't have 4 identical 17x8.5 wheels and make a 235/40 fit due to the offsets as you described, so if I were to mix a set of wheels or shave the hubs to get custom offsets to support a 235/40 tire front and back what would the optimal offset be for the front and rear wheels?

My guess is front 17x8.5 et20 to clear the strut, rear 17x8.5 et25 to clear the fender? Could I split the difference and get a 17x8.5 et23 square setup?

So I kinda searched this thread but couldn't find much. This is mainly a diameter question. I have 215/40/16 16x9 square, 10mm final offset front, 15mm rear. As I understand, stock 195/65/14 is a 24" diameter, and 215/40/16 is a 22.8" diameter. I feel like the tires being undersized by 1.2" makes it look odd from the side. The car is pretty damn slammed (IS lip is <an iPhone width off the ground)...should I go for 215/50 or 225/45 for the next tires and be really anxious to get new tires for a long time (this is basically the biggest issue), or be happy with my current ones because my fenders/tires would be destroyed within a week with anything larger?
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

You'll want spacers all around, those will look poor without them.

15mm all around will allow 215/40 at all four corners.

Offset is dependent on width, but for the average up to 8" wheel 15-25 offset works well.

You will need 20mm front spacers just to clear the struts. At that point the wheel will be far, far outside of the fenders.

Tire sizing completely depends on how much space you're adding with pulling and/or flares. Basically nothing will fit using my normal guidelines (fender roll, stock body).

I like your idea. With the +23 it actually might just clear the front struts by a few mm. Worst case scenario you could always use a 3mm front spacer.

I very much agree, I've been steering people away from 215/40 as much as possible in recent years. It became the de-facto 16x9 size for reasons that I do not understand. It looks silly unless your oil pan is 1.5" off the pavement.

205/45 or 215/45. The sizes you mentioned will not work.
