    Rear license plate screw size?

    Hi all,
I'm having no luck matching the rear license plate screws. My car came with 2 (that fit), and I'd like to add 2 others (well, really, I'd like to replace them with 4 stainless screws, but I'll settle for another matching pair for now...)

According to realoem, it should be this:
    07143448498 Fillister head self-tapping screw ST4,8X16MM
    https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...37#51181821830

I ordered those, they didn't fit.

So I took the screws that were holding the plate on, went to the hardware store, and wasn't able to match the size/thread (ugh).

This is what my plate holder looks like (is this even OEM)?

Thanks for any help. Much appreciated

I replaced mine with 10-24 screws. Mine were similar from what I recall, just plastic inserts for the screws to grab

Most likely, you need to replace the plastic inserts first.

I tried those--because that's exactly what I use on my e46--and they did not fit. I'm thinking my plastic retaining nuts are not original and just some generic thing. Ordered the OEM retaining nuts and will try again.

That did it, thanks! Bought these stainless ones from Amazon, and voila!
