OP, why don't you road trip the car to somewhere in the US for paint? Either take a few days to strip the car or let them do all the prep work. Once it's done, either fly back to pick it up or have it shipped home. I bet you could stay under $10k USD ($14 CAD) for the whole trip AND the paint.

Honestly this isn’t a bad idea. I bet there are some great places in SoCal, which isn’t too far anyways. Have some recommendations?

I mean, if you're going to SoCal, you might as well go to Mexico where they still use the harmful chemicals that make single stage paint last forever.

I wish I woulda taken advantage of this when I lived in Long Beach I’ve been hearing great things about that operation for years.

My only concern is my car disappearing in Mexico if I’m not the one bringing it there… I gotta get in touch with them and see what kind of vibe I get.

A buddy and I were thinking about road tripping from SF to Pancho, spend a week or two in mexico "working remote", then drive our e30s back. It woulda been really cool, if my car hadn't been totaled.

It seems like my new e30 got resprayed at some point, because a layer of paint is cracking and peeling really bad. I think I might try sanding it down to the original layer and/or respraying it myself. Even a halfway decent job will be worlds better than how it currently looks.

I think that Los Panchos is in the cards for me next year. A road trip down to TJ from Chicago, fly home, fly back, road trip would be very cool. I am philosophically against the $12k-$15k paint job, what I was quoted, for a car that I have about that much into. Pulling out all the stops for $2500-3500 is well worth the road trips. After all, that is why I bought it, right?

If there is anyone who has had the Los Panchos or Los Ponchos experience (down the block from each other I have heard) please post. Vintage VW, Porsche, and 2002 folks have left good testimonials.

Neat. $3,500 paint job, you're in IL? so 2,000mi road trip each way plus accommodations. That's gotta be like $700 in gas alone at current prices. How does that work out in the end?

Taking my car to a paint shop in Salinas next week. Will report back with pics if I have them do it. Pretty sure I'm pulling the trigger on TV at this point.

I am on the schedule for Los Panchos this June. I bought the car to do road trips anyhow. My mother-in-law is in Laguna so we go there anyway, sometimes by car. It works out in the sense that a paint job in Chicago costs $15K if, and it is a really big if, you can find someone who will do it. No one wants to touch an old car these days. They only want to do quick and dirty collision work.
