I have a 1993 325IC, and whenever I visit an auto parts store, their system identifies my car as an E36 model. To obtain the correct parts, I have to ask them to change it to 1992. Interestingly, when I searched for '1993 BMW 325IC' online, E36 also appeared in the search results. Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening?

It has always been that way. That's how it is with old cars, especially border year cars. I tell the parts dabases mine is a 1990 325i. It's a 91 318is with a 92 325ic engine

Yeah, just use a 1991 or 1990 325i convertible as your car if you ever have to go to a parts store, and to be clear, there should be no reason for you to ever do that since they will probably have nothing but an oil filter for you. Order your parts online and reference them to your specific year/model on a site like bmwfans.info or realoem.com if you need to be sure.

yeah, just make things easier and refer to it as a 91."I'd probably take the E30 M3 in this case just because I love that little car, and how tanky that inline 6 is." - thecj
