From there on, you only have to extend your wires from your external pump and make a new connector for the sender. I can make some pictures tomorrow if you need some.
Thanks, I can handle it. I am curious if getting a late 318i unit will have both high pressure pump and have both hoses for supply and return since these should have a 55L tank. I’ll keep searching. Thanks for the help so far everyone.
You say "Where are your other two cylinders?"
I say "Where's your other camshaft?"

If anyone has a used in -tank pump they’d like to sell, dm me. It could be either the early 55L version or a late 318i style.

it's easier just to mod a pump in. chevy vega pump is the in-tank mod for the dual pump system, 6 cyl mustang is used for the single in-tank pump. i used a generic spectra brand from a mustang to replace my in-tank single pump.

Yeah but I don’t even have the correct pump housing. I have a large sending unit assembly instead of a the normal pump/sendee unit that is in all your cars.

it's like the e21 i guess. 1 large sending unit with a single hose exiting. you'd definitely need a hanger and sending unit from an early or late e or i car, wouldn't matter which. they are not hard to get. used would work if you go that way. it's the sending unit that's expensive, not the hanger. i'd try used for that.

My 85 323i had the large circular level sensor pick up similar to the one pictured. So what I did was retrofit a TRE/Walbro pump onto an early US model carrier that has both the fuel pump lines and level sender then deleted the external pump. Yep that’s what I have, but weird that yours is a single hose. Anyway I just grabbed the correct early housing. I might just use the lift pump currently on it and see if it quiets the main pump. If not, I’ll will work on a wallbro mod

That was just a photo I found online. I have the actual unit somewhere in a box.
