E30 early vs late windscreen rubber gasket

    Hi!
I have a pre facelift e30 coupe. I need a new windscreen gasket and someone is selling a new one with oem number 51311972248 for a good price. Looking at the oem number it says this one is for facelift models, however I cant find any information saying the windscreens are different between the years. Does anyone here know if this gasket will fit my car? Thanks

Per RealOEM.... 51311913887 is superseded by 51311972248.

The difference looks like later cars with airbags used part number 51311962985. Hopefully someone else can clear things up.

The late window lockstrip is black while the early one was chrome.
The late one may be a little bit wider.

Isn't this what you need? It's cheaper than the late one.
URO makes the old one too. Maybe, that's why it's sold cheaply.

Ok, thanks. So the late rubber gasket should fit the early models also πŸ‘πŸ‘

I am painting the chrome black on this car, so I will go for a black locking strip πŸ‘

The early ones are wider. When I was sourcing used replacements for my 1987, I measured my original ones at around 36mm wide. When I sourced seals from another early model car they came in the same width

I got mistakenly sent a late model seal, which may have been aftermarket. I have measured around it at around 24mm wide. This echoes what was in this thread I screenshotted awhile back.

I think the glass is the same size for early and later models.
You should be able to use the later rubber seal plus its black lockstrip.

              URO makes them both.

Ok, thanks alot for this information. I wonder if the window frame of the chassis is different in some way or if the size of the locking strip also differs between the late and early models.

I have now found a gasket for the early model including a black locking strip for only 113 usd shipped to me in Sweden. I will probably try that one. https://ebay.us/m/I4yXYe
