THAT SUCKS!!!! Women should not be allowed to drive after 65. I hope you sue the shit out of her for destroying your classic car.

        Wikipedia definition:

        Definition

        Classic Car Club of America

The Classic Car Club of America defines a CCCA Classic or is as a fine or distinctive automobile, either American or foreign built, produced between 1925 and 1959. Generally, a Classic was high-priced when new and was built in limited quantities. Other factors, including engine displacement, custom coachwork and luxury accessories, such as power brakes, power clutch, and "one-shot" or automatic lubrication systems, help determine whether a car is considered to be a Classic.[1]

Any member may petition for a vehicle to join the list. Such applications are carefully scrutinized and rarely is a new vehicle type admitted.[2]

This rather exclusive definition of a classic car is not universally followed, however, and this is acknowledged by the CCCA: while it still maintains the true definition of "classic car" is its, it generally uses terms such as CCCA Classic or the trademarked Full Classic to avoid confusion.

        United States legal definition

Legally, most states have time-based rules for the definition of "classic" for purposes such as antique vehicle registration; for example, Pennsylvania defines it as "A motor vehicle, but not a reproduction thereof, manufactured at least 15 years prior to the current year which has been maintained in or restored to a condition which is substantially in conformity with manufacturer specifications and appearance."

        Antique Automobile Club of America

The Antique Automobile Club of America defines an antique car as 25 years old or older.

Personally I think we need to petition our E30's as classics, mines 20 years old so by US definition its classic.

you will need to have a professional car appraiser come and look at the car on their dime(her insurance). they were telling me my car was totaled and they were going to give me $1500. I LOled and raised hell. they gave in and had a car appraiser come out. by the time he came out my car was professionally detailed and i resprayed the bumpers for $150. gave them $2000 in bills for some of the work i had done.
they reported back to the insurance company that my car was worth $5400
they gave me $3000 to fix the dent and my car was no longer totaled.
yours is totaled but you can get good money if you keep fighting.

Also the claims adjustor hinted that, though I'll be gone for 2 weeks, they'll only pay for the car to be stored at the body shop for a till friday.

I'm going to fight this all the way though.

Why are you guys saying "if they total it?"

Seriously the car is totaled. The frame is bent. the car will never handle well if a new rear end is welded on.
I feel bad for the OP. I would be crying too if my m30 car got destroyed.

very similary boat that i'm in... i just finished my m30 swap before the car was totaled due to someone else's fault. I know it sucks, but at least your engine is unharmed.

buy the car back from insurance (~200) from what they offer you... tear out everything that's worth keeping... and buy another one to start over. -that's what i'm doing. I'm currently in the middle of parting my two e30's

sorry for your loss man... that blows.

As I walked out to my car (I had parked farther away from the store) I noticed as I saw it through all the other cars that it was perpendicular to the parking spot, and I was thinking "what the hell happened?"
I know that feeling man. Had to walk a whole block without knowing what to expect. All I could see was it was parked crooked and that the car parked in front was completely smashed.

It was kind of a vain hope that it would be fixable, oh well though. A man can dream.

Anyway the insurance called me today and said they'd give me 1300 for it. I was at the beach so I didn't get to talk to them, and they called me right before they closed so I can't call them back, which is nice.

Anyway I could use any help I can get to squeeze the most amount of money out of these assholes as possible.

You'll need to show them the fair market value for these cars. I'll try to find the thread were I asked this same question.

For anyone that cares, the insurance is giving me a terrible time. Like I said I was on a 2 week road trip, which they had promised to pay the storage fees until the 21st, and I would pay the last 2 days. Well come to find out, according to the body shop, they've only paid through the 14th, and luckily the body shop trusts me enough to just keep it there.

Also her insurance doesn't seem to want to return my calls, the adjustor I was assigned changed once already and knows nothing, and the woman who's supposed to be dealing with the money they're going to give me for the call I can't get a hold of, I can only leave numerous messages on her voicemail.

Good news is my brother recently got married to a girl with a lawyer in the family, so FWIW I'm having him help me deal with this, so hopefully I can get this sorted out.

Still have no place to put it though :(

jeez sorry, this just happened to my buddy as well on tuesday. He was parked in the commons parking lot, where he works, he goes out for lunch and some schmuck in a box truck did the same thing. Luckily though he drove a pos 2000 Jetta, he might be getting an e30 out of it.

If you can build it once you sure can do it again, just write up friggen every little thing possible and get what you can out of it.

The reason I'm telling everyone this is because I might be looking for an e30 on my way across the US. I bought this one on a past trip to LA on a whim, and I've been in love ever since. Let me know what you got!
There's a really nice, clean e30 here in Colorado for sale, near Denver I believe. Low miles, resprayed couple years ago or somethin, like $2900
