Fuck that ticket, if people were coming up on you fast, and you were doing the speed limit no judge will make that stick if you come with an esquire.

I know these cars like to go sideways like something crazy in the rain. Especially if they are lowered, something about that extra camber. I pushed the backend around in fourth gear, accidently of course, I would hate to ball my car up.

What kind of seats id dyou have and how where the four points installed? I get more and more worried every time I hear about an e30 crash.

The rules are written out you just need to review them. Some states have a longer written test than 10 questions. Just ask Nico how much it cost him to get his license and how long it took to get it.

I am not sayng that you deserved the ticket I am just saying if conditions don't warrant a max speed limit then you are subject to a ticket. Just a fact.

We can add this crash to an already fast growing list. Ryan's E30 acquaintence in Kansas (deer related), and another one in MA recently (speed related). Wasn't there another one I'm forgetting? There was a thread on unofficialbmw.com if anyone wants to check it out: http://www.unofficialbmw.com/cgi-bin...c&f=1&t=007852. Basically, some teenage chick is a paraplegic after losing a fight to a tree at ~100mph. The wreckage is pretty gnarly looking. I'm on the side of the fence that would rather be dead than paralized forever, but it still shows you how safe these things can be. There should be a sticky for just stories WITH PICTURES of E30 crashes, past and present.

Be sure to learn better car control in driving schools this summer. A lot of young drivers oversteer, say studies. I sure did with my first car and ended up in a ditch. (Car wasn't damaged luckily, landed between two trees and drove home with a little scratched and muddy car).....tires also a factor too.

I think everyone on this board needs to make the effort this year to attend a Car Control Clinic if they haven't already (Sadly I missed the one held by the GGC about a month ago). I can't say if it would have helped in this situation, but who knows. One things for sure, it can't hurt and may help save a few E30's from an untimely death.

I wish I knew if there were any kind of driving school in buffalo...aside from the standard Driver's Ed. thing. I'm not bad with car control, being a Buffalo snow driver and what not, but I suppose I'll get some more practice...this being my first winter with RWD. Boy am I nervous.

At side street and parking lot speeds, as long as the snow is uniform in depth and there's no ice under it, RWD is rather easy to control if you have snow tires. Throttle steering is wicked fun.
With FWD tires, if your drive wheels lose grip, there goes your steering too all at once.
The problem with E30s is when they hit a patch of rain/snow/ice at higher (above 40mph) speeds. The rear end likes to twitch, and depending on the ground surface it may be hard to regain control. Sometimes it just happens way too fast. Not too fast to react at all, but too fast to react properly. Anyone who plans on driving in snow should practice in a big open parking lot first chance they get. Practice every possible driving situation, at all different speeds. E30s aren't that bad in the winter if you're prepared for how they handle the slippery stuff.

ixs are the best in tricky conditions, we have plenty of those in canada and i have seen accident similar to yours happen in front of me and becoming a 3 car accident.

Friend of mine lost control in a fast turn at around 140kph and ate a pole in his '02 WRX.. AWD is great, but it can't defy the laws of physics and in my opinion they handle worse than RWD cars.. Just gotta know what you're doing.

If you can't get to a car control clinic at least go run some autocrosses, preferably a couple in the rain. There should be instructors there that can ride with you and help you out a lot. And for those poor folk among us they are a lot cheaper than the DE's.

Hah, i've got less chance of an autocross than a car control clinic... There hasn't been a real autocross in this country since I was born.

Honestly, i wish there were though. I would love to go to car control clinics and autocross events. Sadly, here my only options are street racing, drag racing and circuit. I gave up on street racing a long time ago, I'm outclassed in drag and the novice circuit arena is pretty much a one-way ticket to my car getting wrecked. I've yet to see a car survive a novice race intact.
