Bye bye video store, hello real job.

On the 29th, I'm leaving the video store where I've been working for almost 4 years. I got a job at Fuqua Industries, a builder of manufactured homes. They build them indoors, and it's basically a construction job except that most of the parts are already pre-fabricated, we kind of just assemble everything.

It starts at $9.50 an hour, which is almost $3 more an hour than I am currently making. I get paid holidays including my birthday off after 90 days, full medical and dental insurance through AFFLAC after 6 months, and a week's paid vacation after one year. Depending on how well I train, I will be making $10.70 by the end of January.

This job won't be permanent, just while I go through the schooling for my tattoo license, which could be about 6-8 months while my mentor and artist Derek gets his shop ready to be approved by the state to be a teaching facility. Once I get my license, I'll be making damn near 10 times per hour what I make at this new job. :D

The important thing is that this job is going to give me well more than enough money to take care of my monthly expenses, which means plenty to save for the car. With luck, I'll be in a new E30 by the spring.

Great news! that is cool shit I am sure there is at least one member on this board who might be buying a house from your company!!!

Hey with the tattoo gig just remember you might make 10x as much but you might not be working the same amount of hours you do at this place so you might want to transission into the tattoo gig and maybe work both till the new place picks up in terms of "traffic".

But none the less congradulations Eurohasa"real"job_88

Very true Avi, I'll keep that in mind. Derek is often booked out for at least 3 weeks, so we'll see. His eventual goal is to have me running the shop, so he can open another one.

I forgot to add, it's 6am to 3pm Monday thru Friday, and I have the option if I want to work until 5pm everyday, with the last 2 hours being time and a haf overtime. :D

Yeah, the cost of living here is pretty low, at least for now. Our city is being overrun by Californians, and I'm not just being sarcastic. The property values here are rising exponentially at a steady rate, and the influx of rich Californians swarming up here to snatch up cheap land is starting to change Oregon for the worse, I'm afraid.

Damn, I wasn't paid that little (video store) since before I was 18. And that was because I was one of the bitch workers at an express carwash. I get paid $7 an hour now for standing around and driving BMWs back and forth. And will hopefully be getting $13.XX interning this summer.

Four years, and you were at 6.50? Did they start you at min. wage? Like the reason to stay in school thread, I am reminded......

The money may be attractive, but I bet the work suuuucks. I got friends in Frito Lay's packing plant whatever, and they hate work, and learn to zone out.....but get paid that well. I could never do it, I pride my happiness more than money. Plus, I can get paid well for doing work I enjoy more.

Congrats on moving up, but please don't stop!

I am making $7.05 right now, and it's proably the easiest job in the world, but I'm sick of it. I'm sick of the public, and standing around all the time doing pretty much nothing. I know that the new job isn't going to be cake, but my brother works there, and he said it's not too bad, but that you do enjoy your days off. :D
