Has anyone added a sunroof to their car that did not come with one?

If you're going to do it...do it right....that involves removing the welds at the a and c pillars and removing the whole roof and re-welding a sunroofed roof on to the car. Surprisingly enough, you can still buy the whole body piece (un-welded of course) from my dealer at least I am not sure about others. Have Fun!

Do not get an aftermarket sunroof or cut holes in your existing roof. If you do I'll shoot you!

WTF is up with having a sunroof, I didn't know people were so against them. I understand the 'trackers' issue with them but what's up with you daily drivers?

Is it really rare or is that the original owner was a yuppie who wanted a bmw and couldn't afford the options....?? Same deal as crank windows, non pop-out windows, etc

I'm sure that all the E30's sunroof panels started out as non-sunroof panels, so why wouldn't I be able to add as if it was from the factory. I'm getting the full OEM BMW kit with the glass from ZM blue devil. Once it is done you guys won't even be able to tell that I put it in my self.

Awesome thread. Everyone (like me) who dreams of a garage-find slicktop E30 is reaching for a barf bag. Reminds me of all the hacked-up muscle cars my friends and I drove and modded in the '80's that were worth like $1,200 at the time, and now the stock ones are worth $30K for nothing special. Heartbreaking.

PO, I urge you to reconsider. Maybe 5% of E30's were slicktop, and they are now highly coveted. Aw, hell it's a waste of breath, do what you want.

your car is worth more to someone who HAS A USE for a car with no sunroof. I think someone will trade you their sunroofed car for yours....for the love of God think about what you're doing....and the sunroof is a precise mechanism in my experience, it's sorta like the little fucking brother of the super precise convertible top (those with verts know what i am talking about)....since you're doing an oem install you better have all of those measurements on point...there is little room for error....but I see that will happen considering you made the biggest one without even touching a tool

I heard the E36 sunroof mechanicsm went in a little easier than the stock E30 one. A little easier to shim it into place I recollect.
