I didn't know that the M3 was under 50, but in that case, I'd choose the M3 - in white, with red leather inerior.

G35, 350z, IS300 etc are nice, but I'd rather go for the M3, or if mods are allowed, then IS300 6spd with a 2jzgte 8)

There are powerful, cheap American cars too, but I'm not a huge fan of the American muscle. Corvettes, GTOs, Mustangs are cool to ride in, but I'd never buy one.
Only thing I love from the American car manufacture are the Jeeps :D

EVOs are cool, but rather have the rwd M3. Slap a turbo on any car, and it will go fast. The Japanese are good at slapping on turbos on anything that moves and making them into a beast.

All in all, if I had 50,000 to blast on cars, I would put a downpayment on a brand new 997.

Probably not a good idea. Turbo big enough to boost at such high revs = horrible lag down low. People have had better luck with superchargers while trying to keep the S2K's powerband, but with just more power. A well modded n/a S2K would be amazing though. I still have the video (on busted computer) someone posted a long time ago. Some kid built a sick S2K that created possibly the best sound out of a street motor ever.

Early 911's as in 64-66? With a 2 inch shorter wheel base than 67+ models. Yes those are garbage. Too twichy. Cars are no fun when you have to worry about swapping ends that easily.

67+ 911's with the longer wheelbase are great if you can deal with the shitty build quality and the lack of power on non "S" models, ie: 911T models were shit.

The 74-83 911's were also highly unreliable and overweight ie: the SC models. I hate those.

When the 3.2 came in 84 things got back to normal.

With all this said, the best 911's are 993's and race editions such as RS and GT3's.

I recently drove a 01' Turbo and was not impressed. Too much intial understeer. And the steering was too light. I prefer non-Tubo, RWD Porsche's. With that said the 997's should be incredible cars, evoking memories of the 993.

PS: I owned a Boxster for a while. A Boxster will match a regular 911 9/10ths of the way on most tracks or canyons

modern turbo technology now makes for fewer compromises in lag vs output. A lot of the S2000 turbo graphs i've seen have had amazing low end that puts the SCs to shame...

Is there an aftermarket for sequential turbo systems yet? Like in the old RX7 turbo and new BMW diesels? Seems like a similar set-up would be ideal for getting a shitload of even power from boosted high revving motors.

the SCs are among the most reliable of the air cooled 911s

Answering the inital question. With 50k large:

                  1. I would buy a Lotus Elise with the hardtop and the sports package for 45k.

                  2. Second choice is a bare M3 with xenons, heated seats and the optional factory forged 19's for 50k.

ha. that's a CSL. Those cost a bit more than $50K...

That is some highly controvercial shit right there. Many will argue that the 73 RSR's are the BEST 911.
And the majority of 911 fans will argue that 996s aren't real 911s, but just a fancied up Boxster.

Turbo vs. non-turbo is usually a matter of opinion too. Many people who buys a 911, buy the non-turbo not because its cheaper, but because they prefer it over the turbo version.

The 73 rsr's are the best looking 911 in my opinion, and with that kinda weight, I'm sure it drives incredibly as well - i hope one day, i will get to drive one, hell i'd be happy with driving a S or the RS!!!
I can say though, that the 993s handling is simply amazing - everything about it is made right. After driving one of those, everything else feels like a understeering boat going through some turblulence.

                            2005 BMW M3 Coupe..

                            :)

Too bad you didn't include the rest of North America in your instructions..

                            Otherwise I'd say a 2005 120d six speed..

or a 120i and use all that spare cash to drop an S54 in there lol.

                              For the guys overseas:
Anyone know what '05 535d tourings go for? Lots of space, good mileage and 413ft. lbs of torque sound like a good combo to me.

I cant believe that I was unaware that the M3 was under 50. I saw one at the dealer the other day for 62K. I change my vote from the 330Ci sport to the M3 with whatever options you have to disregard to place it at 50K. :)
