M42 is already pulling 4300rpm at 90mph in 5th. Good luck with that bet.

I don't know if you have ever heard an s14 in person. There isn't much "sleeper" factor to be had there. Even with a bone stock exhaust, it would have a deep rumble at idle that would completely give it away, nevermind considering how loud it is when you wind it out.

You could always throw a resonator in before a nice n quiet aftermarket muffler though. Not saying I would, I want LOUD ANGRY GRIZZLY BEAR EXHAUST NOTE from my car. Stainless steel cone on a single pipe hahaha. Idle is going to set off alarms.

3.73 diff or lower?? I'm thinking of putting one in my 318

Anyway I've had both an m42 and an m20 and they both are fun engines, but you need to keep the revs up in the m42....

True. My 318 has a 4.10 LSD. It's slow, but not not so slow that I have problems getting up hills, merging onto highways, etc.

Hate 318s? Are you serious? Do want a 318is slicktop, or 320is w/ s14 stock. Want bad in fact.

Ive had 12 M20's. Not bad, smooth as butter and torquey, but winding out a s14 or even a stock M42 is great fun.

3.73 or 3.64 is ideal for the M42 but the stock 4.10 makes for a lot of revs on the highway.

Your maths does not compute. 2.93 at 90mph in 5th = 3060 rpm. Face it, M42 is clobbers the ETA everywhere.

I would love a 4.27 actually, better performance around town though I admit it would be revving up there on the highway.

                          wow, eta vs m42 argument.

How about this - you both fail. they are both slow, arguing which one is faster is totally pointless.

I didn't mean to start arguing, I just meant the eta has better low end, and there better in some applications. Yes their both slow and a b25 pwns both

Yeah. I had the same exhaust (large Magnaflow 2.5" I/O) on an S14 as an S50US. The S14 is ridiculous at idle. The S50US is civilized and darn quiet with the same exhaust.

saying the m42 is "pulling" at any speed is sort of a misnomer...
