Bittersweet news today, US Grand Prix confirmed for 2012-2021. However I am not sure how I feel on it being in Austin, Texas, at a circuit made from scratch. Invariably this means Tilke will design it :(

Well at least it wont be a road course.... They should model it after an old classic track like brands hatch not copy it but look to an old track for inspiration. Lets hope Tilke plays no part in it. Cant wait to get my tickets, and hopefully it is in the fall when it isnt so damn hot down there, maybee before Brazil would make sense.

Another source for todays' news of F1 returning to the US....
Honestly, the location selected isn't much of an issue to me. I'm just thrilled to see that F1 will be having a venue on US soil again. I've wanted to go watch a race for a some time....and I still think that I will make a pilgramage to a European track someday, but to have one that's held real close to home (a 3+ hour flight) is just icing on my cake.

I found this quote hilarious from the Speedtv.com f1 news brief. It is talking about RBR bringing an F-Duct system to Turkey possibly.
"With this system the best team becomes even stronger," 2008 World Champion Hamilton is quoted by Germany's Sport Bild. "The RB6 has many good, detailed solutions. I have already told my engineers that we must copy them."
I am sure "Hamilton's" engineers weren't planning on doing that until he said that. Glad he is calling the shots at McLaren.Last edited by E30Kaiser; 05-26-2010, 01:27 PM.

Very skeptical.
Do a bit of research and you'll see the mayor/city council/etc did not even know of the plans. The land for the track has not even been purchased yet, much less track design/layout/etc.
And unfortunately, that German track designing waffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffleswaffles Herman Tilke will most likely design the track.
His shitty track designs are fucking up the racing more than anything else. Look at the racing on the classic circuits vs the new shit...Need parts now? Need them cheap? steve@blunttech.com

The land is purchased, and the track is going to be done by Tilke. No more questions at least.
Veteran circuit designer Hermann Tilke will be responsible for the Austin F1 track, promoter Tavo Hellmund has confirmed to this writer. Hellmund also says the project is also much further along th…
Also as much as I shit on Tilke, he has created a couple good tracks, like Turkey. Also based on what Cooper said in the comments about it, it is somewhat reassuring.
