    Bangle getting the axe?

I don't want to start rumors that I can't confirm but I thoght you'd all be interested to know that I was just talking to my professor, the assistant head of the industrial design department, and he told me that he read an article that said that BMW would probably be firing Chris Bangle soon. I can't say I'm too sad about this news, hope it brightens everybody else's day.

Very doubtful due to the last few years constantly topping the last one in sales and revenue. And if they wouldnt only have to fire Bangle to get rid of the hideous designs. It would have to also be Adrian Van Hooidonk (sp), and theres another designer that was more of an influence in these "dynamic" designs. I doubt BMW will go back to the elegant linear designs seen last on the E38 and E46 anyways, now that they are selling so many cars. :( . I do hope you are right, though. I mean, you have to look at it this way, the way these cars are selling, it has given BMW the revenue to really advance in technology and motorsport.

It sounds like a rumor to me. Haven't seen anything on the auto-mag websites about that bit of news.

Ok, since I've never said this to anyone before...

Welcome to 2 years ago... (j/k).

But seriously, Bangle announced 1-2 years ago that he'd be stepping down as head of design, but no, he's not being fired and he's also not leaving BMW. The rumors surrounding his announcement, however, was that BMW asked him to step down as design chief, but who know/who cares, I like all bmw designs, afterall, it is still the most copied/emulated marque to date.

yeah that is old. He filled some other important role if this is what were talking about. That heppened long ago. Everyone got excited, but the mags made sure to state that he was just being moved to some other high-up position. And loving the marque can also mean you dont just swallow what is being produced, just because its the marque you like, IMO. You also have to know when to criticize, of course its all a matter of opinions. Just like a girlfriend or close friend, you dont just say everythings cool and never tell that person when something bothers you, that something they do is wrong, and that everythings rosy when its not, just cuz you love em. Thats of course my opinion though. :) This is all moot of course if you catually do like all the designs cuz you like them, not just cuz they are BMW. I was like that too, until they came out with the last batch of cars. I just couldnt swallow this last batch, haha.

See, I know what you're saying, but I like the cars, not because they're BMWs (however, I'm not too keen on the new 3 and 5 interiors). But basically everything grows on me. I didnt really like the 7 when it came out, but now I really do. I had major issues with the 5 when it came out, but the new m5 made me love it again, but that's true of every model. The first e36 cars looked, and still look, like ass. Just like I didnt much like how my eta started life. But anyway, I really like unique looking cars, and that's what BMW has done. They are the most copied brand, and they're forced to be the first marque to be new, innovative, and creative.

Anyway, so is this a new rumor then? Is bangle leaving bmw?

Have you seen the sales figures for the newer BMW's Mariano? Sales have been on a painful decline since the new designs.

Bangle will/has been relocated elsewhere within the company.

Sales are slightly down over every model, but up significantly for BMW overall. They have a much larger US product lineup than before, so sales are spread across the line. Mercedes, Audi and VW all posted sales losses this year, BMW posted an increase.

Personally, I think Bangle is good for BMW.
You can't just make the same car over and over, you have to change, and that is what he's best at. Have you seen the new six, z4, and 5 series? Beautiful cars. I even like the 7, but not as much. See, BMW could care less about what all you old BMW classic style lovers want, they want to appeal to the average person and I would say they are doing a good job of that. BMWs have never really stood out untill now, there is nothing quite like them, and that is good in THIS case. Now everyone is copying them yet again. BMW doesn't hop on the bandwagon, they drive it.

I've yet to see any enthusiasts driving one of these new piles of shit. Just a bunch of rich yuppies you had to buy the newest thing. BMW no longer makes drivers cars.
