Sounds awesome Luke - I've been itching to do this for a while - cool, cool stuff!

    - Pictures of the key fob?
    - Why do you need to go into the fuse box for the car horn?

I've been wanting exactly this for a long time, actually. I just haven't wanted to waste the time on my current car when I know I'm getting another E30 soon.

Anyway, if you could do a light flash rather than the horn honk, and it's not stupid expensive, I'd be Very interested. WI winter mornings suck and it would be awesome to include all of these features in a dummy safe unit designed with instructions for my particular car.

Just in case you guys are curious about what Luke thinks are good tools:

        Crimpers, channel-lock or go home
Test-Light, I have "The Probe", but one of these nice doohickeys.

He gave me the lecture many moons ago, so I bought the tools.

Luke do you have a picture of the garage door in Eugene? That'll sell some fool-proof remote starts. :-)

So do you always have to let the car turn off on it's own to "arm" it? Or can you still turn it off normally?

I don't know if I need the remote start. Do you have a 2 way transmitter setup with keyless entry and honk schnanigans?

So I take it this means that because my driveway is sloped, I have to pull in and let off the brake while simultaneously yanking up the e-brake? Or is it easier than I'm making it out to be?

Sounds pretty cool setup. I have a question as mine has the basic keyless setup. Just today I got the brake failure, license plate failure. Never seen it before. Sounds like it could be the from the install? Why would it JUST come up today? Had car for months...

No worries, I can easily set this up for E36 as well: I just don't know the sneaky wire locations that is gonna make this easier in the E30.

I *could* install it, but really don't want to, heh. Shoot me a price and if you need any work done (drywall, trim, painting, etc etc) perhaps we could make a deal? *winkwinkwink*

Otherwise, let me know and I'll see about rounding up some money ;)
Chris, you have been to my shabby little hovel: you know I am a renter! Where the hell where you when I had my shop and needed a showroom built, Hmmmm?

Guys, this is about $400 as an installed price: Andy might be able to do it for somewhat less.

Shoving my fat old ass under a dashboard is getting harder every damn day!

                  Andy, ya WHORE!

Guys, for those that do not know, Andy here trained under my grumpy old man thumb for about two years. His work is excellent IMO. No corners cut, no bullshit "T-Taps", never ever any ghetto ass "scotchlocks", just quality work, for way fucking less than he should charge.

No, only if you want to remote start. If you hit the brake, it shuts off...but since this question was asked:

I am gonna go test that shit in the AM.

I thinkyou can keep your foot on the brake while setting the ebrake, then if you hit it again after that is when it won't start.

While on this topic, there is another option: I can change the programming to require you to push a button 9on the transmitter) before you shut the motor off. That is how the car I just did is set up, as his GF drives it and he doesn't want her remote starting it.

It has a siren: that is part oif the "alarm" stuff. It also includes "light flash" and you MUST tap into 3 circuits to do it right! I will be prewiring the diodes to do this, so it is pretty simple.

                    Oh...you bastard!

What JoshiePoo is referring to here is my having installed remote start in my GFs E30, with the only safety being her knowing how to shut it down quickly.

She uuuuuuuuuuuuuummm...failed. WTF, new garage door only cost me $700 and the bumper was already screwed up, right? She learned her lesson, I paid for my stupidity.

Oh yeah, hers will have this feature soon. I try not to fuck up the same way twice.

Yes, I can, but the cost difference to me is only about $20 or so...so you probably already know what I am gonna say...

Being a combo system makes the deal IMO.

BTW, Guys: This can do BASIC Turbo Timer Function too, and it can keep the engine running for "Pit stops"

It also has 3 "Auxiliary" outputs you can use to roll windows up or down, motorize your trunk lid, turn on your seat heaters, whatever!

                          Good lord...great questions, guys.

My turn for a question for you:

I know basically dick about making/posting a video...should I try? The car is still here, all buttoned up. I can show the basics of how it works, right?

Luke I was wondering if its possible to change the horn sound to the arm sound found in toyota/lexus vehicles. The soft "beep" None of the shops near me have been able to come up with an answer.

You need something built in the future, Luke, let me know. I'll do it for labor + materials. You're top notch in my book and I even have a genuine business license and everything ;) It would almost be official or something...

This is the coolest shit I've heard of in awhile. I'd love to see a video of how everything works.
