Jesus I would love to do a cannonball run. That would be so
fun, as long as I had a good meal and a bottle of NoDoz sittin
    shotgun I mean....

Truth being though, I'd probably end up eating a tree.....

Fuck. That is DAMN fast. I wonder if they ever got pulled over or anything. They must have unless they were SUPER careful. But you would have to be at that speed. In more then one aspect.

AFAIK, the record for the Cannonball run was last set by a rear wheel drive 911 turbo.

In the '70s, there were the Challengers, Camaros, Cadillacs, etc. but the roads were ruled by the Carrera's and Ferrari's. These cars were at home on the interstate at high speeds. Just like Jordan said, Brock Yates (Cannonball's founder) said the Ferrari at 120 felt like 75.....so controlled and balanced.

            Now this is impressive:
“Here we are, with the fourth Cannonball history despite that the farce known as the 55mph speed limit, with all the starters having complete the 2900-mile run at a total average speed of 70.7 mph—while they traveled over 52,000 high-speed miles without so much as mussing anybody’s hair.”

The original Cannonball Run was created as a protest against the 1970's Federal Speed Limit. Congress made 55 the fastest allowed speed limit of the land. Since this time, laws have obviously changed......

But the point is:“Fast cars with good drivers play no negative role in traffic safety, and the present system [55mph federal limit] is as silly, obsolete and counter-productive as trying to make the Volstead Act work.”

Stu is obvously a skilled driver and can handle high velocity on the highway. Sure his speeds might be  but it's 8) because his car is stable and :D .

Fastest I ever got in my E30 was 135 coming down the road from Mt. Bachelor, perfectly straight for like 20 miles. That was after we swapped to the i engine though.

The fastest I've done was about 125.......

My dad challenges me for a top-speed race on the highway one day with a rolling start at 80....... slushbox e30 325i vs 5spd e30 325i.... first one to hit the last limiter wins.

I gotta take up that challenge one day...... even though with the stock cars it'll be a mission and a half to reach the max speed. I'm confident the 5spd will win..... but could the auto and the 4.10 open diff make the difference at high speeds?

Haha, well, I'll throw in my $1/50.

I've had my rice burner (1999 Civic EX) w/intake and port/po up to 130, had a LITTLE room to go before the rev limiter (about 500-600RPM) but damn, it took forever to get there.

The fastest I've been in a BMW is my dad's 740i, I took that car to ~140 on 421 coming home from the recording studio one night. Thank god for Escort. :)

The e30? Shit, with three bad wheel bearings, I'm hard pressed to put her over 70 before I go deaf. Oh well, I'm presently looking at a 318is anyway :) Plenty of mods to keep that top end mark going towards 150.

Stu, please tell me you could have taken that vette at any time.. This is not a good sign. My dad still thinks he is invincible in his Roadster. I beg to differ with him.. Hes got the s52, and while it is the lightest chassis to house an M motor, i think one day he will get spanked. So far I know hes had it at 140, and usually he will tell me if he gets into it with someone.. the 140 was for an Infinity G35 coupe which he walked away from. I was trying to convince him to get the Dinan softwear when he went to the Z3 Homecoming last year, but he said that the tuners said if you get the softwear, you should buy the intake, and if you get the intake you should get the gearset, and then brakes, then suspension.. So it was basically whats the point.. He watched some guy with a red M dump over 1000 dollars in DInan parts.

150.. ive been moving 130 in a classic porsche, but thats the fastest i can attribute. Must be wicked.
