No, this is the first time we've heard this. Most people have enough common sense to not try and redesign combustion chambers for more power. Only to then go back to stock later when they have money for a turbo.
Do you know how stupid that sounds? Why not just get an eta head and slap that on if you want the compression? And then when you have money for the turbo, put the i head back on?
Or better yet, don't waste time swapping heads? It's a friggin M20, you're not gonna get a ton of horsepower out of it n/a.

MAtt, Im into doing all kinds crap. One of them happens to be eventually to put enough money in this block and stock parts to see what it takes to BREAK IT, for fun. Guess Im in the wrong forum to see what these things are made of. Im just trying to verify the rumors for myself, havent seen these broken yet, just 1 rocker arm so far.My intentions are to blow the crap out of this thing to see what it can do.Comment

Fid, is that a low 15 or high 14 second car? Oh, must be my IN EXperience, Im sure it's much faster.....blah..Comment

you think you're the first guy to boost a 2.7i? really? Gonna reinvent the wheel on a 25 year old engine design?Comment

You guys are harsh. It's been done before by a few shops just not really on BMW's. Along similar lines...Metric Mechanic made a name for themselves back in the day by grinding grooves/reshaping combustion chambers on BMW heads. They called it "Surface Turbulence". They claimed it helped reduce laminar flow and re-homogenizes the fuel mixture for a better burn. Another well known machinist I know (an Edelbrock guy), welds more 'meat' onto certain parts of a head just so he can make the intake ports larger when he ported it. He would not be able to go as large with the stock design.

there's a difference between what MM does, with a flowbench and empirical testing, and a hilljack in his backyard with a welder and no clue why it's a bad idea. You guys are harsh. welding for bigger ports is nothing new, neither is redesigning the stock chambers. without the abilty to test what you are doing along with a way to closely duplicate at least 6 times. you are pretty much pissing up a rope.
have you thought about just buying higher comp pistons? when you go turbo, get lower comp pistons, sell the others to recoup some cash. done deal.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

If you're too stupid to figure out how to ignore me you should never touch a car...

You could also take an angle grinder to the crank while you've got it apart. Lose a little weight from those rotating parts, ya know...make it scream!
Quit asking questions and just go for it. Post up some pics too.
