V1 or new 9500
If you cant afford one of those, you can't afford to speed. So slow down until you can afford the detector and your first ticket - cuz you'll still probably get one. Actually, I'm just gonna agree with evandael. Keep the high speed stuff for the track. (a track day is cheaper than a speeding ticket/insurance increase)
re: CA - I studied some laws for work when I was doing a CARB study - at least when I did my study, there were 3 areas where something can be attached to the windshield - lower left corner, lower right corner and behind the rear-view mirror - all had dimensions, but would be large enough to fit the radar suction cups. Better yet, find a way to mount the radar to the headliner between rear-view and headliner - then its not even on the windshield and is positioned higher up for better potential to get a signal.
radar detector?

Only if you get caught...
....by one of their radar detector detectors.
Knew someone who got in trouble sitting at a gas station. One of his friends plugged the detector into the cig lighter as a cop passed by. Cop pulled in and confiscated the detector. Dick.
My newly acquired e30 has a detector hardwired under the dash above the glove box. I'm not motivated enough to remove it. It's some piece of shit 'm sure was used while running around with the drugs the car smells like.Leave a comment:

I am in the V1 camp. Mine paid for it's self inside the first 6 months of owning it. I love the arrows.
I will give you a warning though. If you are solely counting on a radar detector to keep you from getting tickets you are going to get more speeding tickets.
Use your head, follow someone that is going faster then you and always assume a cop will be over the next hill or around the next corner hiding behind something.Leave a comment:

Escort 9500ix. Much better than V1.
onboard GPS built in, so it knows your speed, tells you your speed so AUTO/HIGHWAY settings aren't as important.
I leave it in AUTO NO X, and I get Laser and KA bands and it works awesome.
I just drove from Utah to NYC. Utah to Vegas. and Utah to San Diego. I love when it warns of the trooper coming in the opposite direction.
Pricey though ....Leave a comment:

My daily driving does not involve barely any highway driving and the local roads I speed on I know all the traps and when and when not to do it. But when me and my friends go on any kinda trip or long drive my one friend has a really nice detector, cant remember which one though. Nothing beats being able to cruise at 90-95 without a worry when you wanna get home from somewhere.Leave a comment:

V1 is the way to go, price be damned. It'll pay for itself the first ticket it saves you.Leave a comment:
