I've always used Shell V-Power 92 octane in my car, even before I had the chip. The difference between using regular and premium is there, people who claim otherwise are just wrong. No ill-will intended, but it's the truth. Higher octane gas performs better in your engine. End of story.

If you have a chip, yes. But in a stock engine, with a stock ECu designed for 87 octane there is no reason to run high octane.

NO. Chevron is not a low end gas station. Its the only gas i will pump in any of my cars. all the other shitty gas makes my v8 cars ping like a mofo.

Sadly, you've been misinformed. A higher octane gas is less prone to detonation (combustion in the cylinder before the spark plug sparks). Higher compression motors are more prone to detonation, and therefore require higher octane fuel. The fact of the matter is that if an engine doesn't ping with 87 octane, it won't run any better or make any more power with 91, 93, race gas, whatever.

I'll use 76, Chevron, Shell, or Texaco.

                    I won't use Arco.

For my 4runner I'll use Costco or Safeway as well, works fine.

I think its pretty stupid to drive the extra few miles to go to a certain petrol station.

In my carbureted MG, I definitely can tell the difference between 87 and 92. My engine is higher compression though and requires the higher octane, which might be why I can feel a difference.

On another note, higher octane fuel will make your engine run cooler.
