Does it have any thing to do with being able to keep your speed up? Points are awarded for speed as well as angle aren't they?

I've got a bunch of friends who are BIG into the drift scene.
Including my friend Quoc, who is a Drift Day instructor.
He tells me that the more expensive/softer tires allow more predictable break of traction, cleaner, more composed slides, and allow better response during the act of monge. For the best real "drifts", run some good tires.
what i know for sure is that its never "shittier the tire, better the drift" tHAT IS NEVER TRUE. Of course, when you are just starting out, you would start with shitty tires to get used to the whole counter-steering deal.
monge = act of swaying back and forth down a straight line in preperation for the upcoming corner.
I was pit crewing with my friends, helping them out with the tire changes at a drift day. With one friend, Sean, we started out with michelin all seasons all around, and then ES100s in the front. by the end of the day, we were running hankook ventus K104 in the front and ES100s in the rear.
His brother scott, started out with all-seasons all around, and then switched to falken ziex all around by teh end of the day.
