    When we drove the 2012 M5 on a frozen lake we felt the Bavarian stormer was great but a little disappointing in its engine sounds. BMW's fix: a new piece of technology that pumps synthetic engine noise into the cabin. Is it better to know someone's faking in advance?




    I now see the new M cars as worse than the GTR in terms of being overly technology relient and marketed for poseurs that only care about statistics instead of real driving enthusiasts.

    Fuck everything about this.

                      nothing new here. it's a system used on Mini Cooper Diesels, and on other BMW models currently.

                      They call it "Active Sound Design"

                      Active Sound Design now also helps diesel engines achieve a sporty sound that wasn't possible for this type of engine until now.


                      Kind of disappointing that its found on the Sports Luxury Sedan like the M5, but I can't say that I am surprised.

                        this sounds upon right for the downward spiral of enthusiast cars from bmw.

                        No word if it will also sync with the engine if and when it breaks down.

                            Yep, that's where we're headed. Downloadable MP3 engine sounds. Add a sub for even more exhaust note.
