These cars are getting to be less common. The convertible 318's are the rarest in the US. Then the 318i, then the 318is. Not rare but it is not easy to just go and find a clean body 318 anywhere close to me I look all the time. I just sold a clean rust free roller for 1400.00 So I think 4,000 - 4,500 is a good deal.
I own both a sunroof and slick top 318iS...and both practically fell into my lap with no searching for either one on my end. Rare? No. The most common E30? No. Would I ever pay more than $4000 for one? Absolutely not. I have seen more iS cars than I/iC for sure.
You're not missing much with the 91 318i. I believe they were all bare bones 4 doors with cloth interior, steelies and hubcaps. The 318iC's were pretty much the same but at least they were verts! and late verts are great looking cars and came in cool colors lol.
I search e30s on chicago craigslist all the time, and there are so many rediculous people asking way to much all the time, I see automatic etas trying to get $6k there. So I can see why you would think they would be worth so much.
I check out prices on the german market for the 318is now and then...
In Germany you pay atleast 4000€, that makes around 6000 US Dollar for an 318is in good shape.
While you will find 318is for 1000€ aswell, but, most of them are not even worth for rebuildung.
I dont know about the United States, but in here they are becoming expensive since the last 1-2 years it seems.
I'm from chicago and have never spent more than 2500 on an e30. Hell my current sterling black sport interior 318is I bought with 110k on the clock, brand new tires with an extra set of snow tires all it needed was a wheel bearing. All for just 1000. You just need to look. They pop up all of the time here you just need to be on the lookout. Hell 2 months ago my friend spotted an older white lady in her 60s driving an e30 m3 in alpine white and offered her 6 grand for the car. She said she would have to debate it and they exchanged numbers. 2 days later he got a call to pick it up if he paid 7500. He was there within the hour. Mint had records from the last ten years. As he was driving it the next day was flagged down in downtown and was offered 13k for it. He decided to sell it and take the profit. They are here in chicago you just need to look. And 318s are not rare in chicago

In perfect condition it's worth 4 grande? I find that hard to believe considering it's as rare in the states as an m3.
I was thinking anywhere from 7k-11k
Not rare just not common but there are two local to me in the under 2k range.
The cars that sell for cheap are not sold by enthusiasts generally speaking. As in the case above with the m3. You can find good examples cheap from people who just see the e30 as a 20 year old BMW. But you won't usually find one that is enthusiast owned for the same kind of prices.

de ja vu? This thread has already been done. Guy thinks his 91 318is is rare and valuable because of production numbers, its not, hilarity ensues. Although, if its a slick top then it could be worth 15 to 20k. ;)
