I found this from a quick Google search of Eurotuner's website. It looks like the car was at Bimmerfest in Santa Barbara.
"Paul Cain won best of show with this immaculate 3002ttii that boasts a twin-turbo 3.0 M54 M3 motor, E30 M3 transaxle, E39 M5 diff with Quaife LSD, Porsche 993 steering rack, carbon hood, Kevlar seats, cage - it's absolutely perfect"
an M54 is not an M3 motor... but I guess with twin turbos, it's close enough.Comment

Paul Cain's 2002 is much more than an M54 swap (rear mounted transmission anyone?). He's out at cars and coffee in irvine sometimes, and has also been out to past socalvintage shows. He had a website that currently looks a little worse for wear .... http://www.2002twinturbo.com/
I believe this was the Roundel article. (July 2006)

with the amount of cutting and fabricating your talking about, you can pay for 10 years worth of "expensive" S14 maintenance.S14 is super classy and fun, but not for everyone. It is an expensive motor in terms of parts and maintenance.
An s50/52 swap is definitely possible. You will need to cut out part of the firewall, and the trans tunnel to fit the motor and trans. You will need to cut out and fab up a new radiator support. You will need to change the length of your drive shaft. I really don't think that a e21 LSD would hold the power of an s5* motor for very long, so you would have to ether buy a custom rear sub frame from 2002 Haus or chop up and fit an e30 sub frame into the 2002 so that you can run an e30 diff with a e36 diff cover. Then there are all the small things like the custom length throttle cable, the fact that you will need an electric speedo and tach because all that stuff is wire driven on a 2002 and electric on a s5*.
It would be super sick, but there would be a lot of money and/or fabrication involved. If you already have all the tools you need for fabrication ie. plasma cuter, welder ether tig or mig, and so on that right there would save you a but load of money.Comment

Judging by all your for "I just bought" and "for sale" threads you'll be way over your head yet again, but the article on Paul Cain's twin turbo 2002 swap is in October 2010's Bimmer mag. It's not digitized so you'll have to backorder it. http://www.bimmer-mag.com/issues/93 Hopefully the pic of the M54 crammed in the engine bay posted above already made you come to your senses and a you won't be molesting a 2002.sigpic

Normally I am not a leave it alone thumper, but in the case of the 2002, I think closer to original is better.

I missed the smiley face to indicate you were JOKING!!
The 02 engine bay certainly is narrow, but there's certainly room to spare cutting foward and back.. Making room long ways, that was the easiest part! If you have an automatic car, you might not of even needed to fab in a new tunnel.
Im confident we could put an s38/m30 in our 02 if we wanted to.-Jay
