It would be nice, but two car payments? I'll pass.

How on earth can you consider this a "another boring run of the mill sedan?" I mean seriously?? And out of curiousity, what else would you buy for that price that are more interesting?

$25k (MSRP at least) will get you a pretty well equipted mdoel. The base stripper won't be sold here, but it's far cheaper than $25k.

I'd buy another E30 M3, or another Alfa GTV. Perhaps a '71 Nissan Skyline? Possibly a nice E9, 3.0CS. There is no new car that I would buy on the market. None, zero, zip, nada. I also don't expect there to be any cars that I would consider buying in the next 20 years especially if they keep reducing rearward visibility they way they seem to like to. If I cant look over my shoulder (the way you are supposed to) to back into a parking spot and see the lines behind me, I'm not buying the car. Simple as that. My M3 is boarder line on that, I'd prefer better visibility back there, but I can barely make it work (and no, its not because of the spoiler, I can see under that.) Heck, I'd consider a last generation Supra before I would buy a new BRZ (but only if I can see behind me.) $25K is filled with interesting possibilities, just nothing new. Hell, I could be tempted by a Porsche 930 or 993 (I don't like any of them after the 993 however.)

Sorry, the BRZ is just another cookie cutter mass-produced pile of planned obsolescence made of plastic. Its a fat pig of a car at nearly 3000 lbs (a car that size should be no more than 2400 or so.) and in 10 years you won't see a nice one. They lack any good defined lines (everything is rounded, like a blob of butter or something.) there is very little sexy about the car. What can I say, modern automobile designers have forgotten how to design good looking car. They can only copy someone elses work (kinda like the music business ) and can't seem to build anything that looks good. The small manufacturers still seem to have some creativity but the big mass producers have dropped the ball. Still the little guys can't produce a car with a rear window that you can see out of either.

I can't justify buying a new car. Maybe if I had lots of extra money but that's not the case right now.
I just can't help but think.. If I had $25k to spend on autos would I rather spend it on a new car like this or spend it on my E30(s)... and that isin't a very hard question for me to answer.

                  2600 pounds isint 3000.

Design is subjective, and none of those cars you listed would be a good reliable DD.

                    ^^^ exactly.

I guess if you ask 5 different people their opinion on this car you are likely to get 5 different answers.

For the enthusiast with $25k to spend whose "must haves" include RWD, manual 6-speed, balanced chassis and reliability, this car offers a lot. When it comes to cars - it's never a 1-size-fits-all world. The BRZ and FR-S cars aren't for everyone. They are for a select few which have had minimal choices for new offerings in this price range and have these features.

Actually they would be if you spent even half the amount of money on them as you would buying a new car.

As far as $25k to spend on a car, I was assuming a new car. But I can see where your coming from, this is honestly the only new car I can say I am seriously interested in. And I completely agree with looking over your should to back in, screw back-up cameras!

As far as weight, 2700 lbs isn't the same as 3000, and that's not a bad weight at all. Newer cars are going to weigh more than older ones, there is very little manufacturers can do to get around that with all the safety regulations that are getting stricter and stricter. Do I like that fact? Absolutely not. Distracted people that don't take driving seriously running around in 5500 pound projectiles scares the hell out of me in my 2700 pound E30.

As far as asthetics go, it really is just a matter of opinion, and I can't argue with you on that. I don't think they are the most beautiful thing ever, but I do like the looks of it.

I definitely would not say that this car is a cookie-cutter, mass produced car though. The way Subaru/Toyota went about designing it is so very different from any other car either company makes. That has a lot to do with why I am interested in it. It's nothing like anything else that Toyota or Subaru currently makes, or even has made in the last 20 years. It even completely violated some company policies that Toyota has about their vehicles, but they are making them anyway.

I like older cars as much as the next guy. I, too, will never buy a brand new car. But the FRS/BRZ is a good looking package and a much needed addition to the current crop of cars that manufacturers keep churning out.

Despite the hype, the inevitable faults and realities of production, despite the fanbois and haters.. I'm excited by this car.

The best thing about this car is that in 10 years time, there will be some cheap RWD's that aren't completely rusted away, ready to be stripped out and taken to the track.

hoping these will replace the tc in the toyota long beach grand prix celebrity race one day. but there will be a lot more crashes with the women drivers with RWD.
