Looks like I struck a nerve with that 'Son' thing huh? Don't get sandy sweet cheeks. I'm only trying to help.
Sure, re-do the HG on this M42. Make sure you don't screw up the cams/timing by not using a cam lock tool. and make sure you get the install of the Profile gasket more than correct.
also, label the 'mess under the intake manifold' so you remember where everything goes.
pay attention to the Knock sensors so they are angled correct when you put everything back together.
Please have the head checked to make sure its not cracked between the water jackets.
Check water pump & radiator and Fan Clutch for proper function (wtf caused the overheat in the first place)
Button it all up and enjoy your M42...--Hayden--

18- not valve stem seals, the tubes you use to INSTALL the valve stem seals...
17- there are some injector o- rings in there, too. If you have a later M42, you actually need some o- rings from an M44, as the injectors changed size... and added an air distribution manifold..
16 various crush washers. You will not use all of them.
And if your M42 E36 is too slow, you're not winding it out hard enough...

And E36 vs E30? Generically, the E36 has the more competent rear suspension,
the E30 is the better- built car...
