Why so literal? No one likes the idea of having thieves in their community.

I don't know Josh or Yan but I have seen Josh's name thrown around a ton for scandalous things like, not shipping items.. not returning money... Now this? Makes me want to gtfo out of the E30 scene all together.

meh I can't even remember if i donated. I do know that r3v wouldn't be as great as it is w/o Josh. Mistakes happen. I trust it was a mistake. was it mis-handled? Probably.. But hindsight is 20/20. If Josh is stepping down I will gladly take his place, but beware, you will all be banned and shit will be talked between me and the remaining 2 members.

I'm pretty upset with the outcome whether Josh took the money or not. It's a shame that a cool guy like Yan got screwed twice over the same situation.

I hope you all know you're basing your claims of Paypal's high security on what they do NOW and not THREE years ago.. Lots of things have changed in those three years on security for everything...

2FA has been around for years.

The majority of responses here are appalling. The likely hood that the account was successfully "hacked" (to the point where paypal/authorities cannot identify any foul play, IP logs are a dead giveaway) is extremely low. Not to mention the fact that the "thieves" would also attempt to clean out any line of credit or bank accounted attached to his personal paypal account. Not to mention the copious amount of email alerts that would come from all this activity, or the fact that you need to use email confirmations to change information.

The story reeks of bullshit. Josh, lets not touch the fact that you used your personal account for something like this. Why would you sit on the money so long? Why would you ignore the emails from paypal? Why would you wait years to bring it up? In threeish years you really couldn't come up with (lets be realistic here) a mere 2k to replace the money you "lost"? What about all the parts you have purchased and sold on this forum alone?

I'll admit, we as a community could have done more to hold you responsible at the time to make sure the funds got to where they were intended to go. I have seen it too many times, the bag holder runs off with the cash and leaves the community high and dry. You almost got away with it, and in fact did for quiet a while, but I don't know why you didn't just leave. You had to have known this would come to light at some point. No one steals money from a community and sticks around, not sure why you did.

At the end of the day, lets just ban him and move on. Clearly Yan and the community will never see the money again, as made clear by Josh's lack of attempt and desire of returning or acquiring the money owed.

dual factor authentication is relatively new. I'm not sure it existed back then, and it would have been opt-in anyway.

I believe Josh when he says his account got hacked. he should have said something right away though, instead of waiting 3 years.

I would have been embarrassed if it were me, but I'm not sure what I would have done in response. I don't think Josh has $2k to throw around, but I hope he can make it right, even if it's not directly his fault.

Anyone who had stepped up to collect the donations for Yan could have been hacked just the same. the lesson here is definitely don't use your personal account for "business" efforts. Although I did collect some donations a few years back for a cancer ride, it was a pain in the ass, and most people got a tax receipt for it (if they donated enough). I'm not sure I'd do it again, this is one of the reasons..

In light of this information I have removed Josh as an Admin/Super Mod from R3V.

Josh and I had some issues with Paypal at one point (in regards to sending me money), however I was 100% unaware that the funds raised for Yan were lost.

We had an issue where a few advertisers sent us money that was included in this Paypal issue, however I ran the banners anyway and gave them what they paid for... in this case however we had a large community outpouring to help a member, and over $2000 was lost in this process..

Josh, you know what you need to do, and I insist you make it right.

If anyone wishes to speak with me on the matter please email me at my personal gmail account james.crivellone (a) gmail.com

    Thank you,

    --James

Not at all. That's getting off lightly. And if he can't come up with the funds within a certain time frame - say, I don't know, 3 months (which is generous), he should be banned.

And situations like this are exactly why I rarely donate to anything online.

Also, if I'm not mistaken, this is not Josh's first offense, although I don't remember what the other issue was. Not shipping things out for a long ass time, or something like that, I think it was.

Over a couple of months, several amounts were transferred out of the account to different accounts, with people's names I'd never heard of. I wasn't aware it was even going on because the email account that I received the notifications at had been changed, even the account password had been changed, and I hadn't been checking the account regularly, I had no reason to.

I didn't have a very secure password on the account, and I'm guessing that someone in the community easily figured out and waited until the enthusiasm over the thread had died down, and flew in before I transferred the funds to Yan and began their work. In about the month or so prior, I had actually gotten an email at some point stating that someone had tried to log in to my account unsuccessfully. I had gotten these emails before and not really thought anything of it, as half the time, they're fake or phishing scams. I checked my account, and it was fine.
Are you serious? I change my passwords regularly and watch all my shit like a hawk; if something is out of the ordinary I waste no time checking it out. You're right to be embarrassed as fuck about this. I never trusted the whole donation thing would end well and I'm so glad I didn't give anything. This is fishy as hell, maybe b/c I still haven't forgotten the completely useless sideview mirror that you sold me 8 years ago. That was a long time ago and it was only $20, but your excuse for shipping out a worthless item was bs. I decided to just let that go, but now this...
