doesn't the M3 CSL have the highest HP/liter out of any naturally-aspirated engine in the world? and I'd hardly call it anemic. :)

              and look good beeing still
              and look good going fast
              and get get good slips
and definityl win at the track

              :)
I got 13,27 on low profiles while a hopped up ´67 mustang fastback was getting 12,05 with a huge motor and slicks, just barely winning a boost 300ZX

I also got 8.4 1/8th in time trials at a 1/8th race, getting better times then anybody else there, also a 4wd imprezza who was running low 12´s then,

              We can bring it
              And have brung it
              so
              It´s been brung

The Muscle heads are upset because the European/Japanese car scene has almost completely wiped out the American muscle in the last decade.

Go to the news stands....look how skinny a Hot Rod magazine is. Look how many pages are in Super Street or something similar.

They are comparing a 5.0 liter engine to a 1.6 or 2.0 liter engine

American muscle cars....a bygone trend in car tuning.

Import cars....a current trend in car tuning.

In the 60's and 70's, Detroit was spitting out all sorts of cars and modding them could be done quite cheaply to make noticable gains. All through the '90s and right up to the present, import cars are running a dime a dozen. A plentiful supply of cheap cars and an aftermarket that's saturated with go-fast items for little money gets you the same "experience" as those guys of muscle cars' hayday. Its just a sign of the times. And since American car makers aren't spitting out very many big-engined rear wheel drive rides, this Import Tuning thing is probably here to stay.

Thank goodness BMW is sticking to its roots.

I cannot have much say in this debate, because I have only driven 1 or 2 real muscle cars from the 60's. However, my father, who grew up in the era of American muscle, and who was seriously involved in hot-rodding from the 50's until the early 70's, can give an opinion.

About 3 weeks ago, a few of my friends (who are gearheads, porsche/bmw drivers) were over at my house. We started talking to my dad about cars, and it ended up in a 2hr discussion about everything related to high-performance....from 1940 to the present.

His one point that REALLY caught my attention went something like this:
(not an exact quote, but a summary of his story, with precise details)

"I talked with an old high school friend at our last HS reunion last year. We got into talking about cars. He knows that I am now involved with BMW's, and he brought up the point, "there is nothing like the old muscle of the 60s...the Chevelle SS's, the 426 Hemi's, the Tri-Power's.."

"I immediately said, 'no, that is all wrong.' Right now, is the best high-performance era has ever been. The technology that goes into the stuff we have today will murder the stuff of the 60's. I can line up my 1988 M3 with a small-displacement, high RPM, explosive 6cylinder engine against just about anything from the 60's, and take him out to 100....and because of the gearing of those cars, ya know a 4spd witha 4.11 rear end, he's done at 105mph...meanwhile I'm going for 7500 in 5th----150mph!.....and all he is seeing is a set of BMW taillights."

                            That is the truth.
