I am glad there are people on that board who have some understanding of physics... there is ABSOLUTELY no way he could have accelerated after taking his foot of the gas unless he fell off a cliff or was going down a steep hill. If he put both pedals in (and I'm doubting that) like you are suppose to he absolutely would have slowed, whether going forward, backward, sideways, in a spin, or upside-fucking-down.

Reading that thread just sent me into a whirl wind for the last 2 hrs because I remembered a student teacher named Catherine Sweeney who died in 1994 when she was killed by a drunk driver who was speeding in a para-transit bus. I tracked down a family friend of her's, and spent about 20 minutes talking to her about it.

If this asshole had killed someone in my family, he would have disappeared... never to be seen again.

Do I speed? Absolutely. Do I do 80+ on a 35mph road? Absolutely not. I speed on interstates, and typically that is 75-85mph in a 65mph zone. On back roads the same 15mph over applies as long as I can see what is infront of me. I do not drive wild around turns because my skills as a driver are not there yet where I could correct for something should it go wrong. I have sewed a neetle slipping in between two deer that have run out in front of me in the middle of roads, and have stopped to avoid cars and animals in the road. This happens because I am focused on the road and what my car is telling me. I don't speed when I have passengers, and I don't speed when the road conditions do not permit, and I NEVER speed in residential areas. If I were to kill someone, especially a child, I would eat a gun. That's just not something I could live with.

I just don't know how this kid could go looking for sympathy. I don't wish him dead, but I sure as hell don't wish him life either.

My kid is going to have to suffer like I did... he/she getting a maroone over maroone velore 1985 Ford Tempo, automatic, 4-door. He can drool over my ///M collection in the garage but he ain't touching them.

Yes I can read Matt. I am saying that it's an over inflated value uf a few parts on the car. Do you see 25K worth of extra? Me neither. I see belts and wheels. Maybe a suspension and exhaust and chip but that surely doesn't add up to 25K

Its amazing what some parents will give their children and not think twice about it. i.e. My old friend's little brother got a WRX for his first car (17yo). Silver with OZ Supperleggeras... 6 days later he pulls out in front of a guy that went to our school and totals the truck and does a lot of damage to the WRX. About a month later he's flying down a two lane road about 100mph, old lady pulls out in front of him (probaby because she couldn't judge his speed) and he has no choice but to go off the road. He hits an embankment, WRX does a full front flip and slides across a person's yard and gets wedged between two trees. Fucking ridiculous. But the best part has yet to come... He lied about his speed and the old woman had to pay for the damages b/c of the story that was told was believed by the police and even the old woman. She felt terrible about what happened. (WTF, how could you do that??) About a week or so later parents buy him another Silver WRX...

                  I don't get this bullshit.

That is rediculous. It's like the Columbine shooter's parents in my opinion... no difference... completely indifferent about what their kid is up to... just make them happy, be the cool parent. Fuck that shit.

That's why I like the family I married into... my father-in-law is a multi-millionare and his daughter (my wife) got a used to hell ford taurus he bought for 3 grand at an auction when she was 17, and her two older brothers both got equivalent priced pickup trucks.

A new driver IS going to crash... that is a fact. You just put them in a car you know they won't kill themselves in.

On the other hand, I kinda like what Jonathan's (Schneider325) parents are doing... he is personally rebuilding his mom's 325i... basic black, stick, cloth interior... I doubt he is gonna wanna go wrecking that car so quickly after he has spent months working on it.

Corect me if I am wrong but the whole point that was even mentioned was saying there's no way there is 25k worth of stuff on that car. Sheesh, relax!

what happens if you have a girl? disapointment? haha..

anyways, i agree with you guys and handing thigns to their children.. My dad used yto give me like 1/3 of the cost of stuff id buy(i.e dirtbike) and even then you take it for granted.. When i bought my e30 i paid for it all myself, all the repairs and dad paid for half my insurance.. I think buying a kid a brand new car and paying all their insurance is just rediculous.. There was a guy in my high school that drove a blue wrx sti that his dad bought him when he got his license, and stopped driving it cause he didnt like driving a stick.... So then he drives a fucking escalade.. rediculous shit..

                          wow.

Who the fuck takes a suburban over a fucking STI? you would have to literally be the most homosexual person on the face of this planet to do something like that.

That said, its rediculous he even owned either of those cars while still in highschool.

And extension of this has made me question what's even the purpose of a fast car?

Yet everyone around town evaulates each other by the 1/4 of each others car, with people who get respect in the 12s or better. Seems silly.

I'd rather have a slow car that can handle and I can do legal motorsport events with, than one that is simply easily to break speed limits with. Of course, I drive an E30, so that says a lot about what I look for in a car.
If I had a fast car, I might have gotten caught up in the mission to make it uber super fast, like that turbo M50. Buying a car with coilovers and a slow SOHC six kinda directed me in the right direction

I love how the fucking stupid douche throws in "god loves me". Absolutely retarded. From the sounds of it, he was doing well over 120mph when he spun.

I follow pretty much the same rules you do, only it's rare for me to travel over long distances more than 5mph over the limit, the only exception being passing, where all is fair game. I've had too many close calls, it's just not worth it. being able to autox every other weekend for half the year gets the need to "race" out of my system, except during the winter when I go crazy. At least I get to drive in the snow!

my first car was an 80hp 200,000 mile POS and I expect my children will drive something similar (i.e. slow), but I wouldn't want them driving something so horrible that it would be dangerous.
