    pros/cons of e30 vert?

Well, I guess the pros are pretty obvious and subjective. Nice top down driving in the summer time. So what are the downsides of the e30 vert, or any special problem areas that don't apply to the sedans? I've heard that the mpg can be lower b/c they weigh a few hundred pounds more. Is that noticeable in real driving?

I'm looking at this car in particular: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/2835545431.html. He's willing to let it go for $3k with the stock basketweaves. Seems like a nice and well maintained car (yes, I see that the front seats are a different color than the rest of the interior). The hardtop would certainly be welcome during winter in the PNW.

Overall, is a droptop more trouble than it's worth? Would I be better off waiting for a comparable sedan?

      Electric or manual top?

With the hardtop you get the best of both worlds, as it increases chassis rigidity tremendously. Plus it has nicer lines than the soft top.

I'd buy it. I have no clue what my gas mileage is but the feel of the engine and how worn it is would be much more important (most of the e30's i test drove were powerless and super slow) than the added weight. It's not really loud driving with the top up at all. A hard top would be super nice.

It's amazing with the top down, and like I said, a good m20 is much more of a factor in performance than the fact that it's a vert. Have you driven this car yet?
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

It's an '89 it'd be a manual unless for some utterly asinine reason some PO converted it to an electric.

            Wow, fast replies.

No, I haven't driven it yet. I'm trying to decide if it's worth my time, since the car is in Portland and I'm in Eugene (2 hrs). But if the consensus here is that it's a good buy, I'll try to get the guy to take it to a shop for me for a PPI (my dime). It's been on cl for about 2 weeks, so I think he might be ready to deal. What things do I need to know about getting a ppi at a distance (i.e., not being able to go and look at it with the mechanic) Specific questions I should ask them? If it all checks out, I'll probably take the train up and drive it back down this weekend.

Tops are costly to replace, fenders are vert specific, interior is vert specific (more or less).

They look cool. Apparently bitches love them.

                Pros:
                everything
                fatter sways
                bitches
                Kelly from 90210 drove one.

                cons:
                can't lap the car
                can't participate in 1/4mile/auto-X events (state/rules depending)
rattles like a motherfucker if you don't maintain the frame.
Canvas replacement are expensive, and can leak given it's at least 20 years old.
likely hood of getting a DB car is higher, since the DB's lasted till the mid 1990 mark.

                  THIS.

fenders are vert specific, and you pay a premium if you're looking to replace them.

Leaks, noise, expensive tops, rear window issues, body flex, weight, hard to get good bass...otherwise the drop top greatly enhances the driving experience. It is crazy Nice driving with the top down on those scenic routes.

Depends on the year, I believe late 89+ are bolt on. And verts get all the ladies, and the hardtop is by far the best thing to buy for them. Soft top=fail(fucking ugly)

My vert only sees the light if day when it's sunny and way after the winter months. Nothing is better than checking your blind spot or checking your rearview and you see blue skies and clouds. It's e30 natural seretonin release.

When in doubt, get one of each.

My cabrio has an M20 and auto and is currently in storage for the winter (or whatever we call this weather). I have a grin every time i am in it. My top does not leak but most do. My electric top works aswell. My coupe has an M50 5spd and I use it as my daily. Its odd how they are different in a familiar kind of way. If one of these cars were my only transportation, the coupe would have to be my workhorse. Driver interaction is far superior in the coupe.

the pros and cons depends on the person but to me...
                              pros of owning my cabrio:
                              ultimate sunning machine

                              cons of owning my cabrio:
                              Worrying about someone ripping top

BTW...I personally thing that car is overpriced.
