I bought(traded for) a vert with DBs so i can throw some input into this.

my car was a PROJECT. and like said before, most of the parts are exclusive. They arent specifically more expensive, just hard to find.

I have a new top for mine sitting in my room waiting to go on, expensive, hard and long project.

Also, plastic bumpers are bolt on for the front excluding sawing off the towhooks. Rear end requires major modification. The biggest bummer for me is the fab work required to get a rear apron. I dont even know if i want to follow thru with that!

They move up here at those prices. I saw a bone stock 318is sell in about a week for $5900 (granted, it only had 93k miles). It's really interesting how much the prices can vary by region and local market value.

Hands down #1 pro. I love when spring comes and on the maiden top down voyage of the year. I shoulder check and can see absolutely everything.

The only con I have is that she leaks in the A Pillar corners and I don't have the patience to sit there and adjust my windows properly. may just be my top latches not locking down enough as well.

other pro is that you have a valid excuse for the slowness of the m20. Verts are for cruising, not speeding.

          bstarr,
Anyone claiming the price is higher than normal either missed the fact that it includes a hard top or hasn't tried to price (or just find) a hard top for their cabrio.

Discounting the price of a hard top (even one in horrible condition) and coilovers, the price is low for anywhere in the US.

In terms of the larger question about pros/cons of cabrios, given that you have a hard top with this one there are not very many problems that a non-cabrio would be free from. Yes, sometimes the seals (of both the ragtop and hardtop) leak and they are expensive to replace (over $1000). But that can be addressed inexpensively without buying new seals and leaks are something that non-cabrios have to deal with, too.

The hardtop cabrio doesn't have a B pillar, which I think makes for a cleaner look compared to non-cabrios. Cabrios are heavier, but it's not something you'll notice on the street. The hardtop is lighter than the softtop and if you remove it you'll shed about 70 pounds.
Das ist nicht nur nicht richtig, es ist nicht einmal falsch!

            Blain, what fab work ?

As far as rear bumper goes, just install sliding bracket from donor car.
no bumper triming required, be it mt 1 or 2, even RD's aprons are bolt on parts.

A pilar leaks are a pain, but everything else makes up for it.
            Rear shock mounts.

Yup, I missed that. In that case, it is a fair price. Pardon me.

My DD is a vert. I like I it. I wish I had a coupe to sedan for autox or track sessions at times. It can be done with a vert but would need a rollbar. Anyways in california there's no cons. My car pulls great , looks somewhat decent and sounds tits. Doesn't leak in the rain ,only when i hit the power washer on the top next to edges.

and yes all verts have late model rear fender arches , so doing a PB on the rear is easy with no cutting.

I drive an e30 convert pretty much daily. Bought mine about a month ago.
                  Pros
Freakin awesome to drive around when the top is down.
                  Looks awesome
Easy to load things (kids) in back seat with the top down

                  Cons
During a HEAVY storm or if i run it through the car wash i get a Lil leaking
                  More seals to go bad
                  Wind noise at hwy speeds
Never lock your doors (I'd rather have no stuff and a good roof than no stuff and a ripped roof)

Is it worth the cons? Fuckin-a it is

If you leave your doors unlocked then good luck getting anything from insurance.

Nope, they are still an early chassis car. Mid 1990 they went to late body. I wouldn't buy a vert unless it was a late body.

No car looks better than an e30 vert top down slammed. Plus the ladies love them... A hardtop is a plus it also keeps noise down. I have had 6 verts and a couple coupes and one sedan for me the only e30 worth having is a vert. I'd snatch it up if it was me. Igee makes matching seat covers that will look real nice. Also look into getting an is airdam. and possibly a rear valance. A strut bar and a mason x bar will stiffen the car up alot.
